Job Summary 

Otsuka’s internship program, Intern the Otsuka Way (InTOW), offers students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop critical skills while contributing to meaningful projects. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals, learn about the complexities of the pharmaceutical industry, and gain insights into potential career paths. By combining practical experience with professional development, our program prepares interns for future success. Our internship program also includes instructor led trainings, a leadership engagement series, as well as insightful lunch and learns.

 Job description:

Medicines and vaccines have transformed the prevention and treatment of diseases. In addition to their benefits, medicinal products may also have side effects, some of which may be undesirable and / or unexpected. Pharmacovigilance is the science and activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects or any other medicine/vaccine related problem. Global Pharmacovigilance (GPV) team here at Otsuka is accountable for ensuring patient’s safety by timely reporting all the adverse events related to Otsuka’s medicinal products to Global Health Authorities around the globe. 

Within GPV, we are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Technology Intern to join our team. As an Intern, one will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various technology maintenance aspects of our Global Patient Safety Database management while working closely with global technology experts around the globe. The internship offers a valuable opportunity to learn, grow and contribute to our Safety Data Management Team’s success. 

Learn about our safety systems and participate in training programs to understand the system functionalities.  Work closely with variety of teams, including global pharmacovigilance team and quality team.  Collaborate with other technology team members and actively participate in Project Related work as assigned by the supervisors.  Support the technology & Business Intelligence teams in day- to-day tasks which would entail following on Oracle based technology platform:  Assist in Development of automation code & implement configuration changes related to ongoing Clinical Trials on Oracle based tools & Oracle Cloud platform.  Assist technical resources to troubleshoot technology incidents & issues.  Works with end users to understand purpose and translate their requirements to technical implementations through understanding of various ongoing or new Clinical trials & Post Marketed medicinal product configurations within our Safety Database.    Assist in testing the functionality of the system configurations for any changes done in Safety System (Argus) to comply with global Health Authority requirements.  Actively engage in learning and skill development opportunities to enhance your technical knowledge.  Identify & implement automated User activity review framework which generates a final data summary report for future references.  Other duties may be assigned. 

Qualifications 

Minimum: 

• By Fall 2025 candidate must be considered a/n Undergraduate senior (e.g. undergraduate junior or above; master’s student; undergraduate senior or master’s student) in Computer science or related field. 

• Actively enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship.  

• Can commit to full duration of internship program. (Standard for all postings)   

• Good working knowledge of PL/SQL, python & Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is preferred. 

• Undergraduate pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science. 

• Exceptional written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail  

• Able to multitask, be a self-starter, and collaborate closely with cross functional teams.  

• Intuitive understanding of today's digital and social culture, with fluency in platform usage.  

• Team player with a can-do attitude where no task is too big or small. 

• Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines. 

• Deadline-driven, quick to move and able to develop executional plans in real time. 

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Relevant coursework or experience 

• Strong technical & analytical skills to develop and maintain software base don python & pl/SQL on a Oracle cloud platform
