Summary of Role:
As the Senior Data Architect at Anthesis, you will play key role in designing, developing and maintaining our data platforms and systems to support Anthesis’s carbon projects, with a primary focus on our flagship carbon farming programmes - AgriCarbon in South Africa and SARA in Argentina. 

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, carbon experts, and software developers, to ensure data accuracy, scalability, and impactful insights across our carbon projects.. Your expertise in software development, DevOps, analytics, and people management will be instrumental in driving the success of our data initiatives and fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.

Key Responsibilities

Data Platform Development, Architecture and Strategy: 

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable, efficient, and secure data architecture solutions on our cloud based platform. 
• Support the data strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and data best practices. 
• Lead the development and implementation of our new MyEasyFarm data collection platform 

Azure Platform Expertise: 

• Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and experience in leveraging cloud services, tools, and technologies to build and optimise data solutions. 
• Evaluate, select, and implement appropriate could services based on project requirements and performance considerations. 

Software Development and DevOps: 

• Utilize your extensive software development background to design and develop data solutions, data pipelines, and data integration processes. 
• Advocate and implement DevOps principles and practices for continuous integration, continuous delivery, and automated deployment of data solutions. 

Data Integration and Analysis: 

• Work closely with data analysts and scientists to understand data requirements and create data-driven models, reporting and visualisations for carbon sequestrations and emissions reductions. 
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across the data platform and analytics solutions 
• Integrate diverse data sources (e.g., satellite imagery, IoT devices, farm management systems) to create comprehensive datasets. 

Optimization and Performance: 

• Continuously improve the performance and scalability of data systems to handle growing data volumes and new data types relevant to carbon farming. 
• Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline data processing workflows. 

People Management and Leadership: 

• Lead data engineering initiatives, providing mentorship and guidance to other team members and ensuring best practices in data engineering and architecture. 
• Foster a positive team culture and ensure effective collaboration within the data engineering team. 
• Support the Head of Data & Analytics with management tasks and generating policy and ways of working the drive efficient delivery. 

Collaboration and Project Leadership: 

• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to gather data requirements, understand data usage patterns, and ensure data solutions meet their needs. 
• Collaborate with the MyEasyFarm data platform team, to align on data architecture strategy and project goals. 
• Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to explain complex data concepts and solutions

• Emerging Technologies: Stay informed about emerging technologies and tools in data architecture, analytics, and cloud services. Participate in workshops, webinars, and conferences to keep your skills up to date. 
• Leadership Training: Engage in leadership training programs to enhance your ability to lead and mentor your team effectively. Focus on developing skills in coaching, conflict resolution, and team motivation. 
• Innovation: Foster a culture of innovation within our team. Encourage the exploration of new ideas and approaches to data architecture and analytics. Participate in innovation labs and hackathons to inspire creativity and problem-solving. 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 
• Minimum 7 - 12 years of hands-on experience in data engineering / architecture, software development, and DevOps within a cloud based platform with at least 3 / 4 years in a lead or principal role.
• Proven record in leading teams of analysts / data engineers in delivering analytical projects. 
• Strong expertise in Cloud Based services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Database, AWS, Google Analytics 
• Extensive knowledge of data modelling, data warehousing, and data integration techniques and tools. 
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to design creative and innovative data solutions. 
• Solid understanding of data security, privacy, and compliance best practices. 
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
