What you’ll do 

The Data Science, Applied AI & Data Products/ Operations team at Canadian Tire designs, develops and automates customer-facing data products and services. These products and services enable and power customer-focused analytical solutions that add business value. The diverse and dynamic team consists of data scientists, engineers, developers and analysts united by a common goal to enhance customer and brand experience across the corporation. The team utilizes the latest data technologies and advanced analytical techniques to build best in class product and services that are embed within the fabric of the business.  

 

Reporting to the Data Science Manager, the Data Engineer will play a key role in the continued build-out of a machine learning-powered customer experience at CTC, in particular the Loyalty 1-1 Customer Recommendation System. The Data Engineer will be exposed to a variety of tasks, covering a range of responsibilities across a full analytical project lifecycle. This may include but is not limited to the following: business requirements assessment, solution design (R&D), solution development, ETL pipeline development and documentation, production operations, and post model deployment assessment. 

  • Develop and optimize existing and new data products based on machine learning (e.g., 1:1 offer recommendation, etc.) 

  • Design and implement data pipelines to monitor, validate model assumptions and performance adhering to best-in-class coding standards 

  • Develop and optimize existing and new data pipelines to standardize and automate 

  • Approach problems with an entrepreneurial mindset  

  • Work on ad-hoc projects that leverage multiple internal / external sources of data such as sales, inventory, cost, digital analytics, loyalty, driving patterns, etc 

  • Work with IT and business stakeholders to influence decision making with data / data products 

 

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience: degrees in disciplines such as Engineering, Science, Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science are preferred.  

  • 4+ year experience (including internship) in data domain or experience working with large datasets agnostic of any industry 

  • Strong knowledge of SQL to perform complex data analysis is necessary, additional experience with Python / Spark or other languages to transform and process data is preferrable 

  • Working knowledge / experience in building machine learning and mathematical models 

  • Working knowledge / experience in data technologies and analytical platforms / tools (Hadoop, Azure, GCP, BigQuery, Power BI, Data Studio, Airflow, Snowflake, etc) 

  • Working knowledge / experience with data intelligence/visualization platforms such as Looker, Google DataStudio, Tableau or other similar tools is a plus
