Aviva is pleased to announce that we are currently recruiting for students for our summer internship Program for the period of May 2025 until August 2025. This is an excellent opportunity for post-secondary students to gain exposure to the insurance industry. Our program offers a variety of experiences across our insurance business unit. Aviva realizes the importance of crafting internships as a means to develop talent to meet future requirements for entry-level insurance roles.

Aviva Canada has adopted a hybrid return-to-office model. This role will require you to work in the Markham office.

Join an exciting team of Data Governance and Risk at the forefront of a company who is leveraging data to better drive decisions at every level of our organization. Our aim is to change how we do insurance, and you can help us. Aviva writes personal, commercial and specialty lines insurance and has a sophisticated approach to capital management.

We are currently looking for a summer intern to join our Risk and Governance team as a Data Intern. Aviva realizes the importance of creating internships to develop talent to meet future requirements for entry-level insurance roles.

What you’ll do

  • Ensure all existing policies and related documents are up to date. 

  • Provide support and advisory to integrate databases and data management platforms with Database activity monitoring system and KMS systems for encryption.  

  • Ensure adequate and timely resolutions to all audit/review issues assigned to the team. 

  • Develop, maintain, and report on Data Quality and Record Retention Management in SAS, EDH and Qlik Dashboard

  • Individual will run business rules and complete testing and transition those business rules into an automatic dashboard.

  • Responsible for documenting detailed support procedures and provide the required support to management on matters related to information security in a timely manner. 

  • Automatic existing process and documentations

  • Work with various business partners ((Risk), stakeholders and IT)

What you need to succeed:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program and actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Business, Project Management or a related discipline

  • Demonstrates a desire to go above and beyond and hunger to learn and grow

  • Ability to adjust with minimal supervision where priorities may shift due to changing business needs

  • Strong verbal and written communicator with high caliber, professional business demeanor

  • Significant experience using Microsoft office programs (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • A real passion for helping people

  • Pervious Insurance program or work experience is an asset  

  • Knowledge and experience using Jira is desirable

  • Familiar Python programming and interested in GIT Ops workflows. 

  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships and collaborative work approaches with bother internal and external contacts. 

  • Have a minimum 2.75 GPA or B average
