Job Description

Are you a highly motivated student with a passion for machine vision, robotics, and real-time systems? Do you want to apply your knowledge of control theories, programming, and computer vision in a real-world project? At Lely, we are offering an exciting full-time internship starting March 2025 for a duration of at least three months.

As a Machine Vision Control System Intern, you will focus on developing a control system to enhance the adaptability of an imaging system to various lighting conditions. Your work will aim to optimise power consumption and improve the quality of visual data captured. This is a hands-on opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to innovative solutions in the agricultural sector.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Computer Vision and Control Systems Development:
    • Implement computer vision techniques and control algorithms to preserve image quality in dynamic environments using real-time data from camera feeds.
    • Develop software to process real-time camera input and explore machine learning options for classifying lighting scenarios.
  • Algorithm Optimisation:
    • Improve the responsiveness of the system to adapt to changing environmental conditions.
    • Apply advanced control techniques, such as PID, state-space, or adaptive control, to maintain image quality.
  • System Testing and Documentation:
    • Conduct tests in various lighting environments and iteratively enhance the algorithms.
    • Document the development process, designs, and outcomes for future reference.

In this role, you will work with a multi-disciplinary team of seven professionals in a dynamic and innovative environment.

Qualifications

We are looking for a motivated and proactive HBO/WO student pursuing a degree in Systems and Control Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. You should also bring:

  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python or C++; knowledge of OpenCV is a plus.
  • Control Theory Knowledge: Understanding of systems modelling and control system design, with experience in applying control theories.
  • Linux Proficiency: Basic knowledge of Linux for software development and deployment.
  • Image Signal Processor Familiarity: Basic understanding of embedded vision camera systems and ISPs.
  • Real-Time Systems Experience: Knowledge of real-time computing principles is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Dutch and English is required.
