The Data Reporting Lead is a key role within the Data Team, responsible for providing technical leadership to a team of data analysts and reporting specialists. This role requires a deep understanding of data analytics, reporting tools, and the ability to translate business needs into actionable data solutions.
You will work in close collaboration with business stakeholders to deliver high-quality insights, streamline reporting processes, and support decision-making through the development and maintenance of reports and dashboards.
What YOUR DAY LOOKS LIKE
The key accountabilities for this role include:
Technical Leadership
- Lead, and guide a team of data analysts and reporting professionals.
- Establish best practices for data profiling, analysis, and visualization across the team.
- Drive technical excellence and foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
Business Collaboration
- Work closely with business stakeholders to understand their strategic and tactical needs.
- Translate business problem statements into data-driven outcomes and actionable insights.
- Ensure reporting solutions align with business objectives and KPIs
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Be the key technical pillar of the Gold Data Layer on Snowflake.
- Collaborate with business units and data business partners on data modelling and defining the semantic layers on snowflake including defining standardised aggregates and metrics in the gold layer of snowflake.
- Lead the development, deployment, and maintenance of reports and dashboards using a variety of data analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, Sigma, Qlik, IBM Cognos, TM1, Business Objects).
- Lead & conduct data profiling and exploratory data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and insights in datasets across customer, supply chain, inventory, product, sales, orders, returns etc
- Where feasible leverage AI & GenAI capabilities for data profiling and deriving deeper insights on complex datasets
Reporting Tool Consolidation
- Evaluate existing reporting tools and processes to identify opportunities for standardization and optimization.
- Lead efforts to consolidate reporting tools into a more streamlined and efficient ecosystem.
- Drive adoption of consolidated tools and ensure smooth transitions for all stakeholders
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, scrum masters and product owners to efficiently convert the product requirements into a working report or a dashboard or a data analysis outcome
- Collaborate closely with vendor teams to make sure the vendor deliverables are aligned with the David Jones requirements and standards
- Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders
Governance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure data integrity and quality across all reports and dashboards.
- Develop and enforce data governance policies and practices within the team.
What YOU’LL NEED TO THRIVE
Experience
- Extensive experience in BI, Data Analytics with a strong background in a leadership role
- Proven experience as a Technical Lead / Lead Data Analyst in a complex environment involving cross functional scrum teams
- Strong stakeholder management and business communication skills
- Retail / Consulting experience is a bonus
- Exposure to AI and GenAI is a bonus
Technical Skills:
- Deep experience in Reporting tools. E.g. Tableau, Qlik, TM1, Business Objects, IBM Cognos, Sigma
- Working knowledge of Snowflake
- Advanced SQL and Python programming skills.
- Familiarity with data transformations and ELT processes.
- Strong knowledge of data modelling techniques (e.g., Star Schema, Snowflake Schema, Data Vault).
- Deep understanding of Data lake, Data warehouse, Lakehouse & Data fabric architectures
- Strong understanding of data quality frameworks and best practices.
- Working knowledge of dbt & git is a bonus
