Airbus Operations is looking for a

Master student in the field of computer vision, title of thesis Object Detection and Data Modelling (d/f/m) 

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented student to conduct their Master thesis research in the exciting field of computer vision. This project offers an exciting opportunity to apply cutting-edge computer vision techniques to a real-world industrial challenge. You will work on developing and implementing a deep learning-based object detection model for use within the aircraft manufacturing process. The project involves data modelling, feature engineering, data augmentation, synthetic data generation, and model training/validation

Duration: 6  months

You will be working at the largest production site for civil aircraft situated in Hamburg. Its location on the southern banks of the river Elbe includes the option to commute by ferry. Your tasks and responsibilities

• Data Modelling: Analyze existing datasets and design appropriate data structures for object detection within the aircraft manufacturing context.

• Feature Engineering: Explore and implement relevant feature extraction techniques to optimize model performance.

• Data Augmentation: Investigate and apply various data augmentation strategies to improve model robustness and generalization.

• Synthetic Data Generation: Develop methods to generate artificial training data, addressing potential limitations in available real-world data.

• Model Training and Validation: Train and validate deep learning models for object detection, utilizing appropriate evaluation metrics and benchmarking against state-of-the-art approaches.

Desired skills and qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Master's program in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.

• Strong foundational knowledge of Computer Vision principles.

• Proficiency in Python programming and experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.

• Familiarity with object detection algorithms and evaluation metrics.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Strong written and oral communication skills.
