ELLIS Institute Finland, currently in its launch phase, is set to become a powerhouse for AI innovation in Finland and Europe. It is a central part of the pan-European AI network of excellence – ELLIS, European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems. Rooted in European competence and values, the Institute will serve as Finland’s leading-edge AI research center, driving transformative research, advancing RDI collaborations, and facilitating engagement between academia, industry, and public stakeholders. Coordinated by Aalto University, the ELLIS Institute Finland operates in partnership with all Finnish universities. Building on the success of the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence FCAI – the Research Council of Finland’s Flagship (2019–2026) – and its pioneering work in machine learning, the Institute is uniquely positioned to further elevate Finland’s role in global AI research and innovation.

Corporate Relations Manager for Artificial Intelligence Research

Are you passionate about AI research and skilled at building impactful collaborations between academia and industry?

We are seeking a visionary yet pragmatic professional to join our expanding AI community and play a key role in developing the Finnish AI ecosystem.

Your role

In this position, you will develop and facilitate innovation and industry collaboration activities for Finnish AI research. Your responsibilities include planning and coordinating the growing ELLIS company collaborations, with a primary focus on leveraging leading-edge research to create a competitive advantage for the industry.  

Your day-to-day duties will include managing and developing existing partnerships, as well as establishing new research, development, and innovation (RDI) collaborations. This involves engaging with researchers and industry professionals to systematically initiate and foster successful partnerships. Additionally, you will design and organize collaboration models that benefit both academic and industrial sectors, including international corporations, Finnish companies, SMEs, and startups.

You are goal-oriented, organized, and hands-on, adept at executing tasks from start to finish. With a solid understanding of academic research and business operations, you will excel in planning and organizing meetings and workshops, supporting collaborative efforts, and inspiring individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Your daily work environment will be in the launching ELLIS Institute. The leadership of the Institute will provide you with strategic and practical guidance. Administratively, you will also be part of Aalto University´s Corporate Relations team, where you will receive professional support to succeed in your independent role as a corporate relations manager for artificial intelligence research.

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • A Master’s or Ph.D. degree, ideally with subject matter expertise in artificial intelligence

  • Experience in research, development, and innovation (RDI); with a focus on the technology industry, particularly multinational companies

  • Experience of managing partnerships with technology companies

  • Familiarity with relevant funding instruments and experience in preparing research projects, such as those involving Business Finland or the EU

  • Fluency in English (required); proficiency in Finnish (highly preferred)

  • Strong organizational, collaborative, interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills

  • Openness to diverse work tasks and responsibilities
