Brief Overview of Position
We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Data Product Owner to own the design and delivery of a domain-oriented data mart that powers advanced analytics, AI/ML, and self-service BI across the organization. You will collaborate with business leaders, analytics professionals, and engineers to create data products that drive innovation and strategic decision-making. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of critical data assets, balance technical contribution with strategic planning, and directly impact the organization’s analytics transformation.
Responsibilities
Define and maintain the vision, strategy, and roadmap for data products (e.g., data marts, dashboards, advanced analytics solutions) within a given domain, aligning them with business objectives and stakeholder needs
Champion a “data-as-a-product” approach, ensuring that data products drive measurable business value
Partner with stakeholders to gather and translate business requirements into detailed user stories, technical specifications, and acceptance criteria
Own the design and delivery of data products by working directly with a cross-functional team, including data engineers and BI developers, focusing on:
Robust data models for BI, self-service, and advanced analytics
Reusable and scalable data pipelines, transformation logic, and performance optimization within the presentation layer
Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for data products to measure their adoption, usage, and business impact
Conduct hands-on testing of data models, pipelines, and BI solutions to ensure accuracy, scalability, and usability, using SQL, Python, or tools like Coalesce
Build prototypes for dashboards or reports using tools like Power BI, as needed
Work closely with analytics teams to identify and support advanced analytics and AI/ML use cases, helping the business evolve beyond standard reporting into predictive and prescriptive analytics for strategic decision-making
Collaborate with business users to create self-service analytics solutions, empowering them to leverage domain specific data marts and other data products effectively, providing training or support as needed
Enforce data governance practices, ensuring data products comply with enterprise standards for security, lineage, and data quality
Maintain clear and comprehensive data product documentation and deliver regular progress updates to stakeholders
Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement
Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years of experience in data and analytics, data product management, or related roles, with 3+ years in a product ownership or leadership position in data and analytics
Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
Excellent product management skills, from defining and prioritizing product roadmaps to aligning technical execution with business goals
Ability to manage competing priorities on complex, fast-paced projects, initiatives, and deliverables
Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills for cross-functional collaboration
Excellent data storytelling skills to articulate insights and value to both technical and non-technical audiences
Strong understanding of modern enterprise data architectures
Advanced SQL skills for querying, transforming, and validating data in Snowflake
Experience in designing and optimizing ETL/ELT processes to ensure data pipelines deliver clean, reliable data for analytics
Proficiency with data modeling concepts, including star schema and snowflake schema design; knowledge of Data Vault 2.0 is a plus
Experience with Coalesce, dbt, or similar tools for data transformations, and Airflow for orchestration
Strong proficiency in BI tools like Power BI, including the ability to build prototypes, test visualizations, and ensure dashboards and reports meet business needs
Strong understanding of data governance principles and best practices, including data lineage, cataloging, and validation frameworks; experience with Collibra is a plus
Experience with embedding predictive analytics outputs within data products
Familiarity with AI/ML workflows and the ability to prepare datasets for advanced analytics (e.g., feature stores); experience with R or Python is preferred
Understanding of statistical analysis techniques (e.g., regression, clustering, time-series analysis) to guide data product development and analysis is preferred
Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments, including backlog management, sprint planning, and using tools like Jira, Confluence, or Azure DevOps
Familiarity with version control tools like Git
