The CMS Stars quality rating system evaluates Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans using approximately 40 measures covering preventive care screenings, health condition management, health outcomes, patient experience, and plan operations.
The Stars Senior Business Intelligence Engineer will play a critical part in supporting the data reporting and performance management of our Stars improvement operations. Your expertise in retrieving, structuring, analyzing and visualizing data will drive impactful business solutions. By creating solutions that serve the needs of partners across the enterprise you will equip them to be more efficient and effective at their work – driving actions with meaningful data.
Location: remote but preference for Louisville, KY

The Stars Senior Business Intelligence Engineer will play a critical part in supporting the data reporting and performance management of our Stars improvement operations. Your expertise in retrieving, structuring, analyzing and visualizing data will drive impactful business solutions. Key responsibilities:
Data Management and Reporting:
Retrieve, structure and manage large datasets to support Stars reporting dashboards
Create, maintain and enhance Power BI dashboards to monitor performance metrics and trends
Ensure accuracy and consistency of data across all reports and tools
Data Analysis and Problem-Solving:
Analyze data to identify trends, insights and performance drivers that impact Star ratings
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex business problems using data-driven approaches
Proactively identify opportunities for improvement and innovation within the Stars program
Stars Expertise Development:
Become an expert in CMS Stars specifications, processes and related performance metrics
Deeply understand underlying data sources and their relationships to Stars performance
Educate stakeholders on Stars data and processes to drive better decision-making
Support Performance Management:
Design and deliver actionable reporting to track progress on Stars improvement initiatives
Assist in evaluating the impact of various interventions and programs on Star ratings
Partner with the Stars team to ensure alignment between data insights and strategic goals
Use your skills to make an impact
Role Essentials
Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of technical experience in data analysis OR Master's degree and 3 or more years of experience
Advanced in SQL
Experience with PowerBI and/or other tools such as Tableau and Qlik for creating data visualizations
Advanced experience working with big and complex data sets within large organizations
Experience analyzing data to solve a wide variety of business problems and create data visualizations that drive strategic direction
Proficiency in understanding Healthcare related data
Proficiency in verbal and written communication to senior and executive leadership
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy
Role Desirables
Advanced Degree in a quantitative discipline, such as Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
Expertise in data mining, forecasting, simulation, and/or predictive modeling
Experience creating analytics solutions for various healthcare sectors
Previous experience in Medicare Advantage and CMS Stars strongly preferred
Familiarity with data warehousing (Oracle) and cloud platforms (Azure)
Additional Information
Hybrid work arrangement preferred, with a mix of office and remote work, but will accept remote for the right candidate

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting.
