As a Data Engineer, you'll work collaboratively with data engineers, data scientists, and analysts across various business initiatives, leveraging massive datasets pivotal to the company's operations. Your efforts will support multiple teams in reporting, bidding, and experimentation of data pipelines. This role requires effective communication with software engineers responsible for generating data and a deep passion for data engineering. How you’ll make an impact: 

• Be a part of trivago’s Content team and proactively contribute to a product that is used by millions of people each day
• Create deeper understanding and insights for our data using technologies like GCP Cloud Functions, Apache Beam, Kafka and Kubernetes, while leveraging NLP and Computer Vision
• Design and build data pipelines on GCP that can handle billions of events in batch and real-time processing
• Take ownership and contribute with your own judgement on how to bring the best and most relevant data to our users so they can make smart decisions on their next hotel booking
• Work closely with stakeholders and other teams to map business requirements into technical solutions that have a real and measurable impact
• Be a technology ambassador, spread the word, and share knowledge among your fellow colleagues in peer exchanges, guild meetings, and meet-ups

Our Technology Stack:

• Google Cloud tooling like Dataflow, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, BigQuery
• Python
• Apache Kafka, Apache Airflow

What you'll need to thrive:    

• 5+ years of programming experience with any language, preferably Python
• Experience building data pipelines and production-level software at scale
• Experience with Cloud platforms
• Experience with DevOps concepts e.g. test automation, CI/CD, infrastructure as code etc. to take end-to-end ownership of pipelines deployed on the cloud
• Proficiency in working with terabytes of structured and unstructured data like text, images, etc
• A problem solver with sense for code quality, iterated deliveries, pragmatism and stability
• The ability to present complex topics in plain English to non-technical peers and stakeholders

• Hands-on experience with GCP technologies like Dataflow, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage and Pub/Sub
• Hands-on experience in distributed systems and/or streaming data technologies
• Extensive experience in writing and maintaining production-grade Python applications
• Profound knowledge of relational data modeling
• Experience (or a keen interest) in working with image processing or Natural Language Processing
