Since 2003, Clearlake has operated around a high-quality fleet of Tankers, Gas Carriers and drybulk vessels on a time-charter basis to accommodate Gunvor’s growing needs for ocean transportation across all major ocean routes, in addition to the needs of third-party business.
Overview of Role:
The Senior Market Analyst is part of the Market Research & Analysis Team, delivering advanced analytics projects for different trading desks within Gunvor, based in Houston (TX), USA. He/She is responsible for providing high quality insights in the crude & products markets. The role will report to the Group Head of Research & Analysis.
Main Responsibilities:
Assist the traders with ad hoc market analysis / insights.
Build and maintain tools/dashboards to assist traders in their decisions making (Web App, Power BI, …).
Develop S&D models and analyze oil balances per country/region by selecting the most relevant data sources.
Identifies the right set of models and develops the right code / package to execute them
Evaluates the validity of the model (both scientifically as well as from a business perspective)
Maintain S&D forecast models, ensuring data accuracy.
Actively contribute to the development of a Group-wide fundamentals data warehouse.
Articulate insights and recommendations (based on model output) to respective key stakeholders.
Communicating technical jargon in plain English to colleagues and with traders.
Develop systematic trading strategies for the Oil Market.
Prepare various reports and analysis for publishing internally
Profile:
The ideal candidate has strong background in energy markets analysis, forecasting models, quantitative modelization and has applied those skills in solving real world problems, particularly in the oil business. The required expertise include (but not limited to):
Perfect knowledge of the energy markets data: Data identification, Data management, Data analysis, Data crunching.
Proficiency in Statistics & Econometrics: Time series analysis, Modelization, Forecasting models design, Backtesting,
Perfect knowledge of oil markets organization & functioning
Proven experience in building and managing S&D balances for crude & refined products
Minimum requirements
A minimum of 8 years in a similar role in the oil trading sector, preferably within a major trading house or oil major.
Advanced university degree in Engineering, Oil Economics, Refining, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or Quantitative Finance.
In depth knowledge of analytics tools and technologies: SAS, R, SPSS, PowerBI, Tableau, Qlickview, Matlab, Hadoop; awareness of Agile / Scrum ways of working.
Proficient in several computing languages such as Python, C/C++, Java, Linux, UML, SQL, Hive, HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
Microsoft Office tools: expert level in Excel (VBA) & PowerPoint.
Excellent interpersonal communication and influencing skills.
Excellent presentation skills.
Ability to work in total autonomy and to manage a team of junior analysts.
Curious and Proactive, rigorous and meticulous.
Highly numerate.
Strong team spirit.
Fluent in English, both written and spoken, French is a plus
