ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Senior Developer - Data and Analytics to join our team and support our newly implemented Datasphere (formerly Data Warehouse Cloud) platform. This role will be tasked with developing and maintaining: data models, ETL configurations, and other data assets in Datasphere. This role will interact with teams from various departments throughout North America and may work in a fully-remote or hybrid fashion depending on the applicant's preference. Datasphere is our main data warehousing platform. SAP Analytics Cloud is our visualization front-end that is integrated with Datasphere.

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Design, implement, and maintain complex: data models, data schema, and structures in Datasphere to meet business requirements
  • Create complex views and ETL/ELT transformations using: the Datasphere graphical interface, SQL, Python, and scripting capabilities
  • Provide end-to-end expertise in Datasphere to support the delivery of business requirements in SAP Analytics Cloud (visualization front-end) and other reporting platforms, in North America, that will connect to Datasphere
  • Serve as the SME for the Datasphere platform to proactively identify potential issues, solutions, and improvements to keep business processes running as smoothly and seamlessly as possible
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of data sources feeding into Datasphere (SAP ERPs and other systems) to decide on the appropriate joins and relationships and create data models, based on these data sources to meet business requirements (primarily in the SAP Analytics Cloud visualization tool).
  • Proactively suggest improvements to existing data models and transformations already developed in Datasphere
  • Ensure that all data assets developed in Datasphere are developed with performance, scalability, and accuracy in mind (handling millions/billions of records across various source tables).
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure proper lifecycle management of newly developed and existing assets in Datasphere
  • Monitor data performance and remediate issues with query and data processing performance as necessary to achieve quick and efficient response times in data models
  • Stay up to date on changes and updates in the SAP Datasphere software via: following the SAP Product Roadmap and attending trainings, seminars, and other offerings by SAP as necessary.
  • Maintain an understanding of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other key company metrics to be sure that data models and data assets developed in Datasphere align with business requirements
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor's degree

Field of Study Preferred: Information Technology, Analytics, Data, Finance/Accounting, or related field of study

Required Work Experience: 8 to 10 years of experience

Required Training/Certifications: Certifications in SAP Analytics Cloud, Datasphere, SQL, or Python are a plus
Licenses Preferred: SAP Licenses/Certifications related to SAP Analytics Cloud and Datasphere

Required Computer and Software Skills: Experience in any number of the following tools (understanding that Datasphere and SAP Analytics Cloud are the tools that our team actively uses). Since the popularity of certain BI and Data Warehousing solutions change over time, and all BI and Data Warehousing tools are conceptually similar, training will be offered as necessary should the applicant have general experience in BI and Data but not SAP Analytics Cloud and Datasphere specifically.SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), Datasphere (DSP), SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (BPC), SAP Business Objects, PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik, SQL, Python, Scripting, APIs, XML, JSON, OData connections, SAP HANA Databases etc.

Travel Requirements: 10-15%. This role may require travel, periodically, to one of the central offices in: Dundee, Chicago, or Toronto, to meet with team members working in other locations.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Highly visible senior role that requires independence and the ability to make decisions using one’s own expertise
  • Strong knowledge of BI, Data Warehousing, and related best practices including knowledge of: SQL, Python, ETL/ELT, scripting, and other coding languages commonly used by BI/Data professionals.
  • Experience in working with Datasphere or BW HANA, third-party data sources, or other data warehousing platforms.
  • Understanding of data governance, data privacy, legal, and other principles surrounding data.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
