We are seeking a student worker to join the Quant Research group within Nasdaq’s European Economic and Statistical Research (ESR) department. In Quant Research, we provide research and analytical support on market microstructure, trading liquidity, and competitor behavior to multiple Nasdaq business units such as cash equities, equity derivatives, and listings with the aim of improving the trading environment, capital formation, and market structure within the Nordic & Baltic region.

What will you be doing?

  • You will provide quantitative analysis and support research initiatives focusing on Nasdaq Nordic’s cash equities and equity derivatives markets.

  • The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to work independently on research projects as well as support research efforts by engaging in data extraction, data cleanup, and exploratory analysis.

  • Typical projects include supporting product development work on new market models and order types, understanding the trading flow of Nasdaq’s customers and helping them optimize trading/routing decisions, supporting the design of incentive schemes to attract order flow, and conducting impact analyses of various initiatives.

  • We also offer the possibility for students to write their master theses within our group.

We expect you to have

To succeed in this role, you need to be highly analytical, meticulous, and thorough while handling large amounts of data. Our short deadlines also place high demands on service mindedness, efficiency, and expertise. The ideal candidate will:

  • Be currently enrolled in a university bachelors or masters program within engineering, physics, computer science, data science, finance/economics or other relevant subjects.

  • Have some first experience in employing statistical, econometric, and/or machine learning models to investigate business/research questions. This could be through prior internships, thesis work, or course work.

  • Have proficiency in programming or scripting languages, e.g. R or Python

  • Have the ability to handle very large data sets

  • Have the ability to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional team

It will be great if you have:

  • Experience working with SQL

  • An interest and familiarity in finance and capital markets

This is a part-time position in Stockholm, Sweden. The ideal candidate can work at a minimum 2 days a week in parallel to their studies and full time during the summer. Nasdaq’s Stockholm office is located in the harbor area of Frihamnen, we have a private commuter shuttle running in the morning and evening hours between the office and the Karlaplan metro-stop. Our office offers free parking, secure bike storage and bike/e-bike lending. The office also features a gym and recreational sports room, as well as a restaurant and snack shop.
