A Postdoctoral Scholar position is available in Dr. Hanqi Guo’s Laboratory in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University (OSU). The position’s objectives are to advance research in topological machine learning and high-performance computing to help domain scientists analyze, understand, and store data that are produced by large-scale supercomputers and experimental facilities. Primary responsibilities include researching methodologies to adapt topological descriptors to rate-distortion theories for reducing scientific data with trusts; developing automatic derivation for preserving quantity of interests in scientific data compression; researching machine learning approaches for analyzing and simplifying topological features derived from ensemble simulations; carrying out software deliverables in collaboration with domain science stakeholders including hard X-ray sciences and climate sciences. Responsibilities will also include mentoring graduate researchers, participating in conferences/workshops to share research progress, and writing and publishing scientific documents.

Qualifications
Required:
Doctorate in computer science or computer engineering.
Candidates should have expertise in the field of visualization or high-performance computing. Candidates should be well-experienced in programming (e.g., C/C++, Python, or equivalent) and machine learning (e.g., TensorFlow and PyTorch) frameworks.
Desired:
Excellent communication and writing skills with a good balance of independence and collegiality in research are essential. The candidate is also expected to collaborate with interdisciplinary researchers across campus.
