The automotive markets Holman serves include fleet management and leasing; vehicle fabrication and upfitting; component manufacturing and productivity solutions; powertrain distribution and logistics services; commercial and personal insurance and risk management; and retail automotive sales as one of the largest privately owned dealership groups in the United States.

Holman is currently accepting applications for the role of Director- Data Engineering.

We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Director of Data Engineering to lead and scale our data engineering team. As the Director, you will be responsible for the design, architecture, development, and operational management of our data infrastructure. This is a key leadership role that will drive the data strategy, lead the development of data pipelines, and work closely with other business and technology teams to ensure that data systems and solutions align with our company’s overall objectives.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our data architecture and analytics capabilities, ensuring that our data infrastructure is scalable, secure, and capable of delivering valuable insights to key stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Team Management
    • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data engineers, providing guidance on best practices, career development, and technical problem-solving.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning within the data engineering team.
    • Develop and execute strategies to optimize team productivity and scalability, ensuring effective delivery of data solutions.
  • Data Infrastructure & Architecture
    • Design and implement scalable, reliable, and secure data architectures to support the company’s data needs, including data lakes, data warehouses, and real-time data pipelines.
    • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of data pipelines to efficiently move, transform, and store data from various sources.
    • Lead the implementation of cloud-based data solutions (Azure) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) to support the company’s data ecosystem.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with product, engineering, and business teams to understand data requirements and deliver impactful data solutions that drive business outcomes.
  • Act as a strategic partner to key stakeholders, providing technical expertise and recommendations on how to leverage data effectively for decision-making.
  • Develop data pipelines and workflows that support advanced analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence efforts across the company.
  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation
    • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in data engineering, and apply innovative solutions to solve complex data challenges.
    • Drive the adoption of best practices in data engineering, including automation, CI/CD pipelines, version control, and testing.
    • Optimize data storage, retrieval, and processing for performance, cost-effectiveness, and scalability.
  • Strategic Planning & Execution
    • Lead the development and execution of the data engineering strategy in alignment with the company’s business goals and technology roadmap.
    • Manage the data engineering budget, resources, and timelines to ensure timely delivery of data infrastructure projects.
    • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for the data engineering team and infrastructure.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
    • 8+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
    • Proven experience designing and implementing large-scale data architectures, pipelines, and data warehousing solutions.
    • Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and modern big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.).
  • Technical Skills
    • Expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, data warehousing, and database management.
    • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C#/Java, Scala, or SQL.
    • Strong experience with data integration tools, data transformation frameworks, and cloud-native data solutions.
    • Familiarity with containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Leadership & Communication
    • Excellent leadership skills with a proven ability to lead, inspire, and build high-performing teams.
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment and influence decision-making across teams.
  • Problem Solving & Strategic Thinking
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
    • Ability to think strategically about the company’s data needs and drive initiatives that align with the business’s long-term objectives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with real-time data processing and streaming technologies (e.g., Apache Kafka, Kinesis).
  • Familiarity with machine learning infrastructure and supporting data pipelines for ML workflows.
  • Experience with data visualization tools and business intelligence platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker ).
  • Knowledge of data privacy laws and compliance regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

Pay:

We offer competitive wages that are commensurate with job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and geographic location, starting in the range of $189,530.00 - $298,515.00 USD annually for full time employees. The annual compensation range is comprised of base pay and bonus earnings.
