Business Insights and Analytics – Sr. Principal Data Scientist

The LCCI (Lilly Capability Center India) BI&A (Business Insights & Analytics) team was started in 2017 with the objective of supporting business decisions for the commercial and marketing functions in the US and ex-US affiliates. This team is part of the LCCI - Commercial Services organization and works very closely with business analytics team based in Indianapolis (HQ). The team currently comprises of ~300 team members, with varied backgrounds and skills across data democratization, data engineering, analytics, data sciences, and market research. The team works across customer segments which includes HCPs, Payer and HCOs, Consumer, and Medical Affairs. 

To better meet evolving business needs, the LCCI BI&A team is investing in more in-house enhancement of data science models. We are looking for a techno-functional leader to provide thought leadership to a team of talented data scientists, ML engineers and data engineers and who can help drive innovation for impact modelling and other global initiatives.

Core Responsibilities:

Ownership of Project Delivery

  • Serve as trusted advisor by actively participating in various phases of the projects (including kick-off, methodology development, execution, insight generation and data visualizations)
  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders to present the final outcomes and provide recommendations as needed
  • Build deep expertise on statistical/AI/ML techniques combined with strong knowledge of the commercial pharma business and the problems that are being solved by data and analytics

Project Management and Leadership

  • Set up processes to ensure continuous high-quality delivery by the team, including but not limited to implementing best project management practices (agile/ scrum as needed)
  • Support a team of highly talented professionals (data scientists, ML Ops); and implement upskilling plans as required for business need, working in close collaboration with the people leader
  • Coach/ Mentor and develop a pipeline of data science talent, and contribute to an inclusive community of analytics expert practitioners

Strategic Growth and Thought Leadership

  • Strategize on key opportunities/ whitespaces, drive discussions and expand outcomes from LCCI for data science driven business solutions
  • Interface with the cross functional partners across the organization, including data engineering, data analytics, data science, IT, and other groups to adopt efficient working models and deliver on high impact projects
  • Network with industry experts and external consultants as needed to develop, test, and implement new approaches and solutions for data science capabilities at LCCI

Experience Required

  • 12+ years of relevant work experience with demonstrated experience of working as data scientist/ managing complex projects and cross-functional teams
  • Strong foundational understanding in applied statistics
  • Extensive experience working on the areas of machine learning and artificial intelligence, deep learning, natural language processing and other approaches to structured/unstructured data, advanced predictive modeling, visual analytics etc.
  • Significant coding experience in R and/or Python
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to be able to structure and solve open ended business problems (pharma experience is highly preferred)
  • Experience with practical implementation of emerging AI and ML research concepts highly preferred

Education

  • Master’s/ Ph.D. degree in technology, statistics/mathematics, econometrics, operations research or computer science
