The opportunity

An exciting new opportunity to join our Financial Risk Management (FRM) team as a Manager. In this role you will work with the FRM team members to support the oversight of capital management, model risk management and the key financial risks (credit, liquidity, market) while collaborating with broad stakeholders in Divisional Risk teams, Group Finance, Treasury, and Group Investment teams.

As a Manager in the team you will also work to identify opportunities to improve risk management processes and their implementation to enhance data analysis and decision-making.

QBE’s Group Risk function has a focus on building deep understanding of the business and the risk environment to support business outcomes. FRM are a key player in this strategic objective and as such this role will help FRM build technical expertise and insights to embed sustainable and effective risk management practices in the business.

Your new role

  • Utilise your general insurance knowledge, financial and actuarial expertise to support the review of capital management processes including the Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP), Economic Capital modelling (ECM), regulatory capital, scenario and stress testing and other critical business processes.

  • Support the implementation of QBE Group Model and UDA governance framework including development of tools, best practices across the Group and model reviews.

  • Develop operationally efficient solutions using machine learning and other AI solutions (to identify key drivers of these risks and enhance risk controls) for the oversight of key financial risks including liquidity, credit, market.

  • Ensure compliance with QBE policies and procedures and relevant legislation.

  • Establish and foster a good working culture within the FRM, Group risk teams and broader business areas.

About you

  • Knowledge of the general insurance industry including the regulatory environment in Australia

  • Working experience in general insurance actuarial areas (reserving, pricing, capital or similar) would be highly advantageous

  • Ability to analyse, interpret data and resolve complex issues along with the ability to convey and communicate information clearly and confidently to a wide audience

  • Inquisitive, with a passion for business improvement and empirical analysis

  • Analytics experience using modern data science tools such as SQL, R, Python and data visualisation skills (e.g. PowerBI) would be desirable but is not a requirement
