Afstudeerstage: Posterior Uncertainty of State Estimation
ARNHEM, Netherlands
Alliander
Alliander geeft vorm aan de energietoekomst van Nederland. Wij werken aan een betrouwbare, betaalbare en bereikbare energievoorziening. The energy transition needs you as an intern
This project focuses on studying the uncertainty margins in traditional weighted least square (WLS) state estimation calculations within power systems. In WLS state estimation calculations, the error margins of individual measurements are aggregated during the estimation process. This iterative process aims to minimize the difference between the estimated grid state and the observed data. Although this provides a probabilistic insight into the grid's state, the aggregation often results in the loss of the overall uncertainty margin in the final estimate. We propose to address this issue using two approaches: analytical and numerical. We are creating the energy grid of the future, for everyone, with everyone. And as an intern you can play your part in this. Your role will involve:
Learning, developing and getting to know the world of business.
Carrying out literature study of the state-of-the-art state estimation in power systems
Studying/analysing and working out the possibility of analytical approach
Studying numerical methods (Monte Carlo methods for example) that are relevant to this problem
Writing scientific report documenting the theoretical and applications
Communicating with stakeholders for revisions and suggestions.
You complete our network
Did you know that Alliander is made up of different companies? Our team comprises a large group of professionals, who develop and manage the energy grid for millions of people and businesses in the Netherlands. We do this together and with a focus on the customer. Thanks to our talented experts, we have every confidence that we will be able to safeguard the Netherlands’ energy future. Together with you, we will make the energy transition possible.
You will be working at our Liander Business Unit. Here you will share responsibility for managing and maintaining energy networks, like the electricity and gas grids. This is how we deliver energy to households, businesses and other clients. Your enthusiasm and the right learning environment will contribute to this. You will be part of the IT Chapter Advanced Data Professionals 1 with over 40 Data Scientists and Data Engineers. People in this chapter are spread out in different multidisciplinary scrum teams and they work on challenges like:
Where is the greatest chance of a power failure?
Which households will probably be placing solar panels on their roof in the coming years?
Can we estimate the difficulty of a task for a contractor from a photo of the customer’s meter cabinet with image recognition?
We offer you the experience to be part of one of these scrum-teams at least part-time. It's also fine to work more independently in close relation with your internship supervisor.
You energise our network
We will help you get to know the world of business while also working on your personal development. You will learn from us and we will learn from your fresh ideas, especially if you combine this with:
A background in Electrical Engineering and looking for an internship/graduation project for at least 6 months
Enthusiasm for speeding up the energy transition with your research
Programming experience in Python
Understanding of common numerical methods
Strong communication skills
Nice to have (or willing to learn):
Experience in (modern) C++
Knowledge of software engineering (e.g. Git, version control, unit test, etc.)
Attractive internship allowance and benefits package
You will therefore receive:
An internship allowance of € 550.00 based on a 40-hour working week
A laptop and, if applicable for the work placement assignment, a phone
An NS Business Card, allowing you to travel sustainably. If you use your own transport to get to work, you will receive a kilometre allowance.
More information for you
Together, we are making our network better. For everyone, with everyone. And you can be part of that! Apply for this vacancy and you will receive a reply from us within 5 working days.
