Why you?Reporting to the Vice President, Managed Services, the Director is responsible for leading a team of managers and their teams of consultants who deliver managed services to our customers around the world, 24/7, 365 days a year. The Director will complement the strength of our existing global Managed Services leadership team with their expertise in operations delivery and a passion for people leadership. The Director will be part of delivering on Pythian’s commitment to providing exceptional quality of service to our clients and enabling a fantastic working environment for our people.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide strategic leadership and coaching to their assigned reliability consulting practice
  • Be heavily involved in delivery escalations and aware of status of all customer programs
  • Aware of customer pipeline and able to plan capacity and resource allocation proactively
  • Conduct weekly 1:1s with direct reports and develop a regular cadence of skip level meetings with manager’s reports
  • Work on strategic proposals/deals for Pythian’s global customer base
  • Manage the pre-sales process including ensuring calls are staffed with the correct technical resources, etc.
  • Be a sales enabler, partner on options for delivery, participating in sales discussions, remotely and at customer sites as required
  • Meet regularly with Pythian partners to ensure smooth operations and continued business partnership
  • Assist in the creation of public facing marketing material (blogs, podcasts, public speaking)
  • Feedback to Offerings on what is resonating and what delivery is hearing in the field
  • Financial forecasting, accounting and measuring profitability of engagements with a strong focus on maintaining strong margins and conversation across the practice
  • Grow and scale your managed services practice to deliver on Pythian’s market opportunity
  • Participate in project retrospectives, looking for opportunities to improve service delivery
  • Be an executive sponsor 
  • Employee engagement and retention of our global talent 
  • Ensure the delivery of exceptional quality of service provided by their practice to Pythian customers 
  • Deliver to defined KPIs, gross margin and resource utilization targets 

What we need from you:

  • Demonstrated experience as a manager or director of a technical team or practice with at least 5 years of experience
  • Experience managing managers is an asset
  • Experience leading global teams
  • A proven record of strong leadership and excellence in people management
  • A proven record of excellence in team building with peers and collaborating with other departments to meet organizational objectives
  • A technically relevant background such as database administration, software engineering, system administration or other related field that would enable a thorough understanding of the work delivered by the Microsoft Data Platform, Data Ops, and Site Reliability Engineering Managed Services and Consulting teams
  • An appreciation of different cultures, and the ability to collaborate and develop meaningful and consistent global solutions
  • The ability to handle and resolve ambiguous, confidential and sensitive situations and issues
  • Knowledge of industry trends and experience using an array of delivery models and a range of multi-media content delivery tools and techniques
  • Ability to articulate their perspective and balance the needs of the organization
  • A strong interest in continuous improvement, both at the personal level and among a team
