Senior BI Analyst Developer

Description

Main purpose of the role:
Create new and maintain existing MS SQL Server objects while supporting an in house developed datawarehouse. Liaise with business users, providing analysis and suggesting technical solutions to resolve business requirements. Maintain a robust version control on all developed code while adhering to production release procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Asta’s clients, business users and members of the BI department to provide solutions to business requirements; including developing SSRS reports, maintaining SQL Server database objects and SSIS packages, troubleshooting issues and providing ad hoc extracts as required. Whilst ensuring Asta guidelines and standards are adhered to.
  • Perform business as usual tasks to assist in the daily requirements of Asta’s clients and employees.
  • Ensure all object changes are managed in accordance with Asta’s release procedures, including logging of requests, use of source control, performing and requesting peer reviews and following full testing cycles. Good and consistent coding standards and disciplines should be adhered to.
  • Provide technical assistance to Asta’s Sharepoint and web developers, with an aim to provide cover for any absences.
  • Work to develop and build on Asta’s API and Cloud computing capabilities.
  • Assist in the onboarding process for Asta’s new clients, working accurately and to tight deadlines.

Key Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • A good understanding of the SQL Server stack, including SSRS, SSIS and preferably SQL Azure, with years of experience working as a developer.
  • A good TSQL knowledge is essential. C#, Sharepoint or other programming languages is an advantage, as is experience working with APIs.
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to liaise with business users and design solutions based on requirements.
  • Educated to degree level in a mathematical and / or IT discipline is desirable, but relevant SQL Server experience in a similar role will be considered.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills especially Excel. A good knowledge of Sharepoint and / or web development would be an advantage
  • Good experience working within the Lloyd’s market, with exposure to all aspects of the insurance market. Experience working in a LIVE environments.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, able to participate well in meetings and present ideas clearly and concisely. Must be confident and professional and able to liaise with Asta employees, clients and external companies.
  • Able to work to a deadline and under pressure, while maintaining accuracy and fail safes, using their own initiative whilst being flexible in terms of tasks performed and hours worked.
  • Be an efficient and effective team member and participate fully to achieve team goals. Demonstrates a high level of energy and personal commitment.
  • Demonstrate good planning and organisational skills, as well as the ability to prioritise and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
