As a Senior Applied Data Scientist, you will use Large Language Models (LLMs), Small Language Models (SLMs), and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) models to create modern, scalable, and efficient systems. Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy solutions leveraging LLMs, SLMs, and RAG models to solve complex data conflation challenges and enhance the Bing Places platform.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in AI/ML research, evaluate their applicability, and integrate them into scalable systems.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, data scientists, and product managers, to translate research insights into actionable solutions.
  • Create robust pipelines for data processing, training, and inferencing to optimize model performance and scalability.
  • Mentor team members, foster knowledge sharing, and support recruiting efforts to build a world-class research team.
  • Uphold ethical principles in AI, ensuring solutions are fair, unbiased, and aligned with Microsoft’s privacy standards.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techn
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical tec
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in Information retrieval and Deep Learning
  • Experience in Large Language Models (LLM) and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in publishing peer-reviewed research or presenting at conferences.
  • Proven expertise in developing and deploying AI solutions in production environments.
  • Experience working with cloud-based infrastructure and big data technologies.

Data Science IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
