Job Description
The Sr. Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of the underlying infrastructure that supports software applications within the NIQ datacenter. The Sr. Infrastructure Engineer also has an objective to examine all systems and technical procedures to determine more efficient methods to yield a reduction in annual costs, eliminate or optimize redundant procedures, and save time by preventing or limiting manual efforts. Requirements include development of new automation scripts, tools and systems, streamlining and ongoing optimization of existing infrastructure processes and procedures leveraging automated practices, ensuring efficient delivery and completion of infrastructure projects applications while maintaining system reliability and security; key duties include automated workflow discovery, script development, design and deployment, mentoring of junior team members, training handoff sessions, creating and managing datacenter resources, implementing Infrastructure projects, and creating and maintaining up to date infrastructure documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Automation:
- Automate and eliminate repeatable manual tasks through programmatic methods, optimize and improve existing operational procedures, system deployment, manage compute and storage capacity, and databases across the global datacenter footprint using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, etc.
Configuration Management:
- Leverage Ansible and Puppet to consistently configure and manage Linux and/or Windows server environments across multiple sites.
System Patching:
- Understand and maintain patching cycles for Linux and/or Windows server environments.
CI/CD Pipeline Development:
- Design, build, and maintain continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to automate the build, testing, and deployment process.
Monitoring and Alerting:
- Implement monitoring and/or logging logic to trace performance problems, identify potential issues, and trigger alerts for timely troubleshooting.
Security Integration:
- Integrate security best practices into the infrastructure, including access controls, vulnerability remediation, and ensure security patching.
Containerization and Orchestration:
- Have a basic understanding of Docker and Kubernetes for containerized environments.
Capacity Planning:
- Proactively manage infrastructure capacity to meet application demands and ensure scalability.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with application development teams to understand application requirements and translate them into infrastructure solutions.
Vendor Interation:
- Work closely with current and potential technology vendors to remain up to date on technology roadmaps and trends, proof of concepts, and technology reviews.
Qualifications
Programming Languages: Proficiency in scripting languages like Bash, Python, PowerShell, and Ansible
Virtualization Platforms: Expertise in the following virtualization technologies (KVM, Hyper-V, VMware)
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Tools: Strong knowledge of Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools
Configuration Management Tools: Experience with Ansible or Puppet
Code Repositories: Understanding and use of code repo tools such as GitHub/GitLab
- Containerization Technologies: Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
- Networking Concepts: Solid understanding of network protocols, subnetting, and firewalls
- System Administration: Experience with Linux system administration tasks. Familiarity with Windows operating systems.
