Overview:
The ideal candidate will be comfortable with command-line operations, scripting, and have experience in database administration tasks such as setup, maintenance, disaster recovery, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

UNIX/Linux Administration

  • Work confidently in UNIX/Linux command-line environments.

  • Write, modify, and maintain shell scripts for automation and administrative tasks.

Database Administration

  • Install, configure, and maintain Progress OpenEdge databases (or other RDBMS if you have relevant DBA experience).

  • Perform routine database maintenance: patching, backups, upgrades, and configuration adjustments.

  • Collect and analyze database statistics to identify performance bottlenecks and recommend improvements.

Disaster Recovery

  • Set up and configure disaster recovery plans and systems.

  • Conduct regular failover tests and verify data integrity.

  • Develop and maintain documentation and scripts for recovery procedures.

Troubleshooting & Incident Resolution

  • Diagnose and resolve database-related incidents and performance issues.

  • Collaborate with development teams to support database-related application issues.

  • Provide clear updates and maintain incident reports for audits and post-mortem analysis.

Automation & Monitoring

  • Develop and implement automated scripts (shell, Perl, and/or Python) for database monitoring and maintenance.

  • Create proactive alerts and dashboards to ensure timely detection of potential risks.

  • Continuously optimize and refine monitoring strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Progress OpenEdge DBA Experience: Hands-on experience managing Progress databases in a UNIX/Linux environment.

  • Alternative RDBMS Experience: If you are not a Progress specialist, proven DBA experience with other UNIX-based RDBMS (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL) is acceptable, provided you can manage similar tasks (setup, maintenance, optimization, backups, etc.).

  • Scripting Knowledge: Working knowledge of Perl and/or Python in addition to shell scripting.

  • Performance Tuning: Familiarity with database performance analysis and tuning methodologies.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Has intermediate to advanced UNIX/Linux skills, including shell scripting.

  • Enjoys automating tasks and improving system reliability.

  • Communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Adapts quickly to new technologies and is keen on continuous learning.
