The department of biomedical engineering is 10 years old. There are 354 students enrolled in fall 24. The department has graduated more than 400 students who are employed in all the top biomedical companies in the nation, in graduate schools and medical schools, respectively. The department has 13 faculty who have brought in more than $10M in research funding collectively and research expenditures have averaged more than $1.75M in the last 3 years in a row. Our department has a strong culture of interdisciplinary research collaboration, with specific strengths in nanotechnology, advanced biotechnology, genetic engineering, biopolymers and tissue engineering.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Overview
New faculty would be expected to add research diversity in one or more of the following areas: biomedical sensors, AI applications in biomedical engineering, Synthetic Bioengineering, Biotechnology and computational biomedical engineering. We are looking for a candidate with an entrepreneurial spirit who can help grow a young department around their research interests.
For the Assistant Professor position, a strong publication record and the potential to succeed in securing research funding and mentoring graduate students are required.
For the Associate Professor position, a sustained record of providing mentoring to junior faculty, advising graduate students, providing service to the University and profession, and securing external funding for research activities with current research funding, are also required.
Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field.
Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate Professor rank should have a sustained record of scholarship and external research funding, successful mentoring of junior faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, and recognized service activities. Must meet UNT’s criteria for tenure.
Preferred Qualifications
Post-doctoral research experience or relevant industrial research experience is preferred.
