The Tax team is a vital part of OpenAI, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations while optimizing the company's tax position. We work closely with various departments to provide tax insights and strategies that support the company's growth and financial objectives.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled tax professional with extensive experience in corporate income tax return compliance and/or income tax accounting under ASC 740, complemented by a strong aptitude for technology-driven solutions.

As a Senior Manager of Tax Data Automation, you will lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge automation strategies within the tax function. Your primary focus will be ensuring compliance with corporate income tax regulations and ASC 740 reporting while optimizing tax processes through AI-driven solutions. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to integrate emerging technologies that enhance operational efficiency and regulatory adherence. While technical skills in SQL, Python, and machine learning are valuable, tax expertise remains the cornerstone of success in this position.

We’re looking for people who….

  • Have extensive experience in corporate income tax return compliance and/or income tax accounting under ASC 740.

  • Are passionate about leveraging AI and automation to modernize tax functions.

  • Possess a strong technical foundation in SQL, Python, and machine learning methodologies.

  • Take a proactive, detail-oriented approach and can manage multiple complex projects effectively.

  • Have the ability to influence strategic business decisions through insightful, data-driven analysis.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

  • Ensure regulatory adherence and accuracy in automated processes by applying expertise in corporate income tax return compliance and income tax accounting under ASC 740.

  • Optimize tax data workflows by leveraging AI-driven agents to enhance ingestion, validation, compliance, and reporting processes for improved efficiency and accuracy.

  • Design and implement machine learning algorithms to drive precision, compliance, and real-time regulatory adherence in tax calculations.

  • Build and maintain SQL-based data pipelines to facilitate automation and ensure seamless data flow across tax and finance operations.

  • Oversee metadata repositories and tax logic frameworks to maintain data integrity, accessibility, and compliance with evolving regulatory requirements.

  • Utilize emerging technologies and predictive modeling to enhance tax computations and strengthen risk assessment capabilities.

  • Work closely with engineering teams to advance system integration and develop scalable AI frameworks that adapt to evolving business needs.

  • Create comprehensive documentation, establish best practices, and deliver training programs to empower tax and finance professionals in maximizing automated workflows.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in tax roles, including corporate tax, partnerships, and international tax.

  • Possess deep knowledge of corporate income tax compliance and ASC 740 reporting requirements.

  • Have experience implementing and operating tax return compliance software such as Corptax or OneSource Income Tax.

  • Are proficient in SQL and Python, leveraging them to automate tax data processes and generate actionable insights.

  • Have a proven track record of leading the design and implementation of scalable AI-driven automation solutions.

  • Can effectively translate complex tax compliance requirements into automated, efficient solutions.

  • Have successfully managed cross-functional teams while driving technological advancements.

  • Are eager to innovate within tax technology in an AI-focused environment.

  • Excel in a fast-paced, dynamic setting where automation drives operational efficiency and compliance.
