Data Scientist

The Data Scientist is a key role in the Data Platform Portfolio team, building the data platform, driving value from data across the business.
With strong technical skills and business acumen to help turn millions of potential data points into actionable insights that can drive product improvements, make our customer acquisition more efficient, improve our customer retention rates, and drive operating efficiencies across the business.
The primary goals of the team are:
- To build and run a data platform which can create and deliver analytics to colleagues and deliver regulatory reporting
- Ingest and transform data from multiple systems, modelling data and engineering data marts to create reusable data assets
- To create a self service BI platform, enabling colleagues across Rentokil Initial to get value from data
- To build AI models and a data science platform that enables Rentokil to derive huge value from AI, through machine learning to gen AI and beyond
Main Tasks:
- AI Data Engineering: Design, build, operate, and deploy real-time data pipelines at scale using AI techniques and best practices. Support Rentokil’s AI R&D efforts by applying advanced data warehousing, data science, and data engineering technologies. Aim for automation to enable a faster time-to-market and better reusability of new AI initiatives.
- Collaboration: Work in tandem with the AI team to collect, create, curate, and maintain high-quality AI datasets. Ensure alignment of data architecture and data models across different products and platforms.
- Hands-on Involvement: Engage in data engineering and data science tasks as required to support the team and the projects. Conduct and own external data collection efforts - including state-of-the-art prompt engineering techniques - to support the construction of state-of-the-art AI models.
- Develop and maintain data integration processes to ensure data quality and accuracy in the data platform
- Actively researching the latest innovations in the industry and encouraging a continuous learning environment in the team and in the business. Stay current with advancements in data science and machine learning
- Identify and troubleshoot data issues and provide solutions
- Work closely with business teams to understand data needs and requirements
- Continuously monitor and optimise data performance and scalability
Requirements
- Data collection and preprocessing, gathering data from various sources, cleaning and validating data for accuracy and consistency, handling missing values and outliers
- Data Analysis and modelling, conducting exploratory data analysis and identifying patterns and trends, developing predictive models and machine learning algorithms, applying statistical methods and data mining techniques
- Data visualisation and communication, creating visual representations of
- data, presenting findings to non-technical stakeholders, writing reports and communicating results clearly.
- Experience in building machine learning models and implementing natural language models; experience of LLM’s a plus
- Experience with SQL, Python or R
- Excellent communication skills, capable of talking to people across IT and business, as well as to stakeholders at various levels of the company
- Understand data science methodologies and approaches like CRISP-DM
- Hands-on approach, proactive and self-starting
- Desire to deliver the best quality and meet the client’s needs
- Advanced experience in designing and creating data models
- Strong with SQL for data interrogation and transformation, a robust understanding of relational data, and the ability to manipulate fact data along multiple dimensions.
- Willingness to self-study and learn new skills to handle any upcoming tasks,
- Desirable to have experience working with BigQuery, Java and/or Python and associated ML libraries
- Experience working with and adhering to Information Security standards, support procedures, and incident response
