Role Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Head of Data Management will provide operational, strategic, people, and technical leadership for the Data Management (DM) function within Veterinary Medicine R&D organization. This includes overseeing systems and tools, study data management, governance, and submissions, primarily pertaining to but not limited to, in vivo animal studies conducted both internally and externally.
As part of the Statistics and Data Management leadership and Automation and Data Sciences extended leadership teams, this role contributes to overall group success and shapes a forward-looking vision for data management while driving effective practices that enable efficient delivery of organizational objectives. The Head of Data Management will collaborate across departments to optimize data processes, support research, and facilitate data-driven decision-making while driving effective practices that enable efficient delivery of organizational objectives.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership and Team Management
- Manage and develop a high-performing team through active coaching, mentoring, career development, and team building.
- Oversee daily priorities, troubleshoot data issues, and ensure high-quality data management standards.
- Perform staff recruitment, assignment of work, performance management, and budget forecasting.
- Develop and refine business metrics and analytics for decision-making and resource allocation.
Strategic Direction and Collaboration
- Define long-term strategies and roadmaps for Data Management aligned with Zoetis priorities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize data processes, support research, and enable data-driven decision-making.
- Partner with leaders across the organization to drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance data quality, operational efficiency, and reporting timelines.
Operational Oversight
- Oversee and coordinate day-to-day data management activities, ensuring alignment with VMRD customer needs and departmental priorities.
- Oversee the management and use of library of standard data elements and forms for capturing VMRD study data to ensure alignment with FAIR data practices.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, including validation of study data-handling systems and processes.
Systems and Technology
- Lead the onboarding and implementation of a new clinical database management system to enhance efficiency across end-to-end study data management activities.
- Contribute to building, supporting, and enhancing data collection, storage, reporting, distribution, access, and archival solutions.
- Facilitate user support and training for data management systems and processes.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation
- Stay current on emerging trends and technological advancements in data management.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance and accelerate animal trial execution and reporting.
- Support the development of electronic data validation and quality checks for VMRD study data.

QUALIFICATIONS
Educational Background:
Minimum: Bachelor's degree
Desirable: Master’s degree
Desired degree in any of the following areas:
- Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Animal Science
Work Experience/Skills:
Minimum:
- Proven experience in study data management practices and proficiency in use of clinical data management software and systems.
- Familiarity with pharmaceutical R&D and clinical trials (human or animal health) with at least 5 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Experience in building high-performing teams and fostering an inclusive and collaborative work culture.
- Self driven with a continuous learning mindset.
- Ability to set clear goals, provide constructive feedback, and drive team performance.
- Experience working with data in a regulated environment and understanding of current Good Clinical Practices (GCP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and regulatory guidelines that are applicable to clinical studies.
- Proven ability to think strategically and align team efforts with organizational goals.
- Experience in prioritizing and managing multiple projects or initiatives, meeting deadlines, and achieving business objectives.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with very good written and oral communication skills.
- Competence with Microsoft Office Products
Desirable:
- Proficiency in programming languages/software (e.g., SAS, SQL, R, Python).
- Previous experience in the preparation of electronic data for regulatory submissions.
The following base pay range reflects the anticipated base pay for this position if a selected candidate were to be located in (Colorado). Base pay may vary based on location and other factors.
Base Pay Range: $154,000 - $188,000

Base Pay Range: $174,000 - $213,000
