About the role:
The Nuclear Company is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Director, AI/ML Engineering to lead the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge AI/ML solutions. This critical role will play a key part in advancing the company's operational efficiency, safety, and competitiveness. This role reports into the SVP, Technology.
Responsibilities:
AI/ML Model Development & Deployment:
Lead the design, development, and deployment of AI/ML models for various applications, including:
- Predictive Maintenance: Develop models to predict equipment failures, optimize maintenance schedules, and minimize downtime.
- Scheduling Automation: Design and implement AI-powered scheduling algorithms for optimizing workforce allocation, resource utilization, and project timelines.
- Workforce Coordination: Develop AI-powered tools for workforce planning, skill management, and performance optimization.
- Regulatory Compliance: Develop AI/ML models to assist with regulatory compliance, such as predicting and mitigating potential safety hazards.
- Ensure the accuracy, reliability, and robustness of all AI/ML models.
- Monitor and evaluate model performance, and implement necessary adjustments and improvements.
Data Engineering & Management:
- Lead the development and implementation of data pipelines and data management strategies.
- Ensure the quality, security, and integrity of data used for AI/ML model development and deployment.
- Explore and implement advanced data analysis techniques, including machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
- Lead and mentor a team of AI/ML engineers and data scientists.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., engineering, operations, safety) to identify and address operational challenges.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the AI/ML team.
Research & Development:
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI/ML research and technologies.
- Explore and evaluate new AI/ML techniques and their potential applications within the nuclear energy industry.
Ethical Considerations:
- Ensure the ethical and responsible development and deployment of AI/ML solutions, addressing potential biases and ensuring fairness and transparency.
Experience
Education: Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field. Ph.D. preferred.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in designing, developing, and deploying AI/ML models in a production environment.
- Strong experience in machine learning algorithms (e.g., supervised learning, unsupervised learning, deep learning).
- Experience with data engineering, data warehousing, and cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Python and relevant AI/ML libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Strong understanding of statistical and mathematical concepts.
Leadership & Communication:
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Estimated Starting Salary Range:
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $198,000 - $228,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a semi-monthly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
