Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Chief Engineer to lead our engineering and analysis teams to drive technical excellence across projects. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a proven track record in system design, architecture, and execution. They must possess strong leadership abilities, capable of mentoring teams, managing resources, and aligning technical efforts with organizational goals. Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to innovate under pressure are essential, as is a deep understanding of operations and performance optimization. The ideal candidate will understand the individual tasks/disciplines of each subordinate team to be able to help them.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to holistically manage diverse teams, fostering collaboration and guiding them toward a unified solution. They must excel at navigating dynamic environments, accommodating evolving requirements while maintaining focus on project goals. Flexibility and adaptability are critical, along with the judgment to recognize when changes are feasible and when to maintain course and confidently say no. The candidate should be adept at collaborating with stakeholders, translating complex technical details into clear business strategies. Candidate tasks may include:• Develop and oversee technical strategies, roadmaps, and engineering plans.• Work closely with warfighters and Lead cross-functional teams to execute complex engineering projects from concept to delivery. • Monitor project timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure milestones are met.• Review and approve technical designs, development strategies and timelines, ensuring compliance with standards and scalability.• Provide technical support/mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback to diverse groups of engineers, developers, and analysts.• Manage evolving project requirements, balancing flexibility with clear decision-making, and iteratively conduct risk assessments to implement mitigation strategies.• Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance system performance and future-proof designs, focusing on building an ecosystem of government-owned tools and environments.• Act as a liaison between technical lead, engineering teams and warfighters/customers, communicating progress and challenges effectively.
Qualifications
Required Skills:• 10+ years’ experience in a technical field, with at least 4+ year experience leading teams of engineers & developers, with a minimum of a master’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.• Strong functional knowledge of C++ and Python.• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and deliver large-scale technical projects. • Proficiency with data operations, database management, and ETL processes, with expertise in SQL and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.• Competence in data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, and Kafka.• Knowledge of data integration tools like Informatica, Talend, and Apache Nifi.• Familiarity with virtual environments, containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes and their deployment/management.• Knowledge of emerging technologies and a commitment to continuous learning, with high attention to detail and a focus on quality assurance.• Experience with Agile/DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD) and Jira/Confluence.• Experience with military operations and Department of Defense environments, tools, and systems.• Familiarity with data visualization tools, such as Grafana, Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.• Knowledge of APIs and microservices development.• Understanding of advanced analytics and data science workflows.
Desired Skills:• Assist in the development of tools and processes to include: development of tailored visualizations, user experience and interface updates, automation of manual workflows, multi-system integrations, and after-action review product creation.• Exposure to Agile and Scrum methodologies, with relevant certifications (e.g., Certified ScrumMaster) desired.• Large Force Operations, Operational Test & Evaluation, Air Domain operations, or intelligence experience desired• Experience automating workflows and processes with programming tools (python, VBA, excel, etc.).• Experience with AF ISR, NASIC, NGA, DCGS, is highly desirable.• BS/BA in Science, Mathematics, Data Analytics, computer science or related field.• Experience using theater and national level intelligence automated information, intelligence, and communication systems, tools, databases, and programs.• Graduate of formal USAF/USN platform instructor or specialized course (Test Pilot, etc.) desired, but not required
Education Requirements:• Minimum of a Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or an additional 8+ years (18+ years total) experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field• Experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.
Travel Requirements:Routine travel is expected. Candidates should anticipate one week per quarter, minimum. Non-traditional work hours will be required at pre-determined intervals for exercise support. Expectation is that work will be performed onsite. Occasional telework options may be available with approval from mission partner.
Clearance Requirements:Current Top Secret (TS) Security Clearance with SCI eligibility and the ability to obtain access to Special Access Required (SAR) Programs and Special Technical Operations (STO) required.
U.S. Citizenship is required.
