Location

This is a hybrid position. You must be in the Ottawa or Toronto office, at least three days a week. 

About the team

Join a dynamic software engineering team specializing in Big Data and AI on the Cloud at Kinaxis. We partner closely with Data Engineers and Data Scientists to create next-generation, scalable, and secure Big Data and AI solutions for global supply chains. Our focus is on transforming innovative concepts into robust, maintainable systems.

As part of the Kinaxis AI Platform (AIP) team, you'll be at the forefront of cloud-native big data and machine learning (ML) processing. We operate at the intersection of DataOps, MLOps, and Software Engineering, developing tools that empower our users to seamlessly manage big data and deploy ML applications globally.

This is a full-time, 12-month position, starting May 2025. 

To be eligible for a Co-op or Intern position at Kinaxis, you must either be currently enrolled in full-time education or, if you are a recent/upcoming graduate, your graduation date must be within 12 months of the placement end date.

This is not a Machine Learning Engineer or Data Scientist role. We are looking for a skilled software engineer to design, build, and optimize data pipelines, storage, and compute infrastructure.

What you will do

• Collaborative Development: Work with senior engineers on developing and enhancing software solutions for real-world Big Data and AI/ML applications.
• Platform Enhancement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of our AI and data platform, ensuring scalability and security.
• Learning & Growth: Gain hands-on experience in cloud-native technologies, big data tools, and machine learning platforms through pair programming, code reviews, and mentorship.
• Agile Practices: Participate in agile processes such as sprint planning, huddles, pair programming and retrospectives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

• Infrastructure as Code & Automation: Terraform, Github Actions
• Containerization & Orchestration: Kubernetes
• Data Management: Databricks, Unity Catalog

What we are looking for

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Familiarity with one or more programming languages like Python, Java, or Scala.
• Enthusiastic about gaining hands-on experience in big data, AI/ML, and cloud computing.
• Ability to work through complex technical problems with a logical and methodical approach.
• Willingness to collaborate and communicate effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• A portfolio or examples of your work on GitHub, Bitbucket, or similar platforms.

 Things that Would Definitely Help

• Showcase of your work in GitHub, Bitbucket or similar
• Exposure to cloud platforms like Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Experience or coursework related to big data processing tools (e.g., Apache Spark, Apache Hop) or machine learning.
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization technologies like Docker or Kubernetes.
