Reporting to a Manager within Strategy, Planning, Privacy and Analytics portfolio and working closely with other members of the team, the Sr. Methodologist and Lead’s responsibility is to lead the indicator selection and development, preparation of data requests, the interpretation of health care data and analyses, conducting advanced analyses of data, and the creation of complex reports, dashboard, and visualizations the development and production of complex reports, dashboards and data visualizations. As Lead this role also requires the ability to lead and mentor a team of analyst(s).
Areas of focus for this position may include a combination of leading the analytical team and providing methodological expertise in indicator development and reporting work, analysis of survey data, administrative data and clinical data, and designing and developing business intelligence and analytic reports and dashboards. The work will span across various sectors, including primary care, long-term care, and hospital care. The Sr. Methodologist and Lead will also contribute to other work, e.g., strategic projects. The areas of focus may change over time, as determined by the needs and priorities of the organization.
Here is what you will be doing:
Conduct analytics and reporting within the Strategy, Planning, Privacy and Analytics Portfolio. This includes system and sector reports, provider level reports, patient experience measurement/public reporting measurement, exploring and identifying performance measurement methodologies to enable the capture of relevant and meaningful health system information.
Lead the planning of initiatives to ensure data quality, service quality and other operational best practices continue to be met.
Lead the development of project timelines, plans and stakeholder engagement documents for operational initiatives.
Design and develop business intelligence and analytics reporting products for internal and external users.
Supervise, assign and direct work to analysts, senior analysts and project coordinators. Provide mentorship and advice and ensure that deliverables are of high quality.
Analysis
Provide analytical leadership in quantitative and/or qualitative analyses of clinical, administrative or survey data to support the development of various reports and products.
Manage performance measurement methodologies to enable the capture of relevant and meaningful health system information and provide support on related consultative, reporting and communication activities.
Maintain the inventory of quality indicators and their technical specifications. Keep catalogue of relevant indicators used by other reporting bodies, locally, nationally, and internationally.
Prepare crosswalks to indicate measurement alignment for different reporting products of interest.
Ensure oversight of data requests, development of analysis plans, accuracy/completeness of reported data, figures, and tables as per the data quality framework.
Assist in the development/selection of indicators aligned to evidence-based care. Lead panel discussions in prioritization, and development of specifications for indicators related to specific areas of interest.
Serve as expert resource on methodological issues related to the analysis of health data.
Participate in the development of new products and methods for reporting products, data visualizations and scorecards (e.g., web-based tools and reports).
Relationship Management
Develop relationships with colleagues within team and across the organization to understand business/operations activities and research needs, share information and provide assistance for understanding analytical results.
Build and lead a team; encouraging team-building; provide critical leadership and mentorship, and growth opportunities to team members.
Build and manage relationships with stakeholders, scientists and researchers that measure health system performance to understand health system issues, share information and resolve issues and remain current on industry best practices and trends.
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience
Master’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, the social or health sciences, or another relevant discipline
5 years experience working with large healthcare databases (e.g DAD, NACRS, ODB, NMS) using R/SAS/ SQL/Python, and data manipulation/analysis of large cross-sectional and longitudinal data sets to produce research, statistical and public-use reports
Experience with Power BI, MicroStrategy, Dundas BI, SSIS / SSRS and other BI tools
Performance measurement and applied research, working with various types of data and indicators
Development and prioritization of health performance indicators and measures as well as clear knowledge of how they can be used to measure the quality of a health care system, as well as the standards and specifications needed to maintain appropriate quality and interpretation of data and results
Strong statistical background, specifically interpretation and methodology
Health services research including quality indicator design, biostatistics, regression analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, small area regional variations, statistical process control charts
Knowledge and Skills
Excellent skills with statistical analysis programs (e.g. SAS, Python, R, SQL)
Excellent skills with business intelligence tools such as PowerBI
Communicate effectively with different groups, such as policy makers, researchers, partners, developers, and the public
Forge and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, researchers, external service providers, stakeholders, and the public
Use excellent time management and organizational skills to produce timely results
Ability to lead/oversee a team; providing leadership and mentorship
