Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for a full-time position with its IT Services department in Richmond, Virginia.
This is an advanced technical position delivering technology administration and support through the DMV Architecture Office (AO). The DMV AO is responsible for research, integration, and implementation of tools, technologies, methods, and systems. These solutions are designed to expand or enhance delivery of DMV services directly to customers, employees, and business partners.
The Data Engineer is a key technical expert responsible for building systems that collect, manage, and convert raw data into usable information for data scientists and business analysts to interpret. Their ultimate goal is to make data accessible so that organizations can use it to evaluate and optimize their performance.
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, serves approximately 6.2 million licensed drivers and ID card holders with over 8.4 million registered vehicles. In addition, DMV serves a wide array of businesses, including dealers, fuels tax customers, rental companies, driving schools, other state agencies, local governments, and non-profit organizations. Minimum Qualifications
•Experience with cloud computing design and architecture with regards to data warehouse, data lake, data bricks and data reporting.
•Expert in managing cloud-based data architecture services and frameworks, preferably Microsoft Azure.
•Expert in managing data repositories for data warehousing, data lakes, data marts, OLAP cubes, etc.
•Expertise on relational, object-oriented, NoSQL, time-based data models.
Additional Considerations
•Requires broad knowledge and understanding of DMV operations, DMV technical environment, and DMV systems.
•Experienced with Python development
•Strong understanding of data protection and data governance
•Experience utilizing Microsoft DevOps Services
•Expertise with data visualization, data migration and data modeling
