About the team

You would be joining a 'full-stack AI/ML team' at Kinaxis that is responsible for delivering complete functionality from the platform up to the solution, which functions in the supply and demand space for verticals such as Retail, Consumer Packaged Goods, Life Sciences, etc. This includes problems in the space of forecasting, optimization, replenishment, recommendation, explainability, and more. You will contribute to a product that delights customers world-wide!

About the role

• As a Software Developer 2, you are a proficient level professional with well-defined experiences, who contributes to and supports the software development lifecycle including the design, development, troubleshooting, maintenance, debugging and testing of components throughout the feature development and improvement process. You will work alongside senior developers to hone your skills, contributing to progressively more complex development or testing. You will actively participate in information and development sessions, offering opinions and feedback to contacts within and outside the direct team.
• All aspects of the machine learning development life cycle are familiar to you. You are passionate about shipping large-scale software systems in a fast-paced environment, but are able to balance longer-term issues such as maintainability, scalability and quality. You have worked with machine learning and data analysis libraries but realize building a machine learning system is much more than just calling a few APIs.
• You have a strong interest in troubleshooting, debugging problems, integrating software end-to-end, building and setting up new development tools and infrastructure, and are excited about finding ways to automate and improve development and release processes while mentoring other developers.
• You are fluent in Python object-oriented development and in the cloud. In addition to working with modern data storage, you are familiar with Kubernetes, Docker, and have hands-on experience with big data technologies. You have the ability and enthusiasm to learn new technologies whether they are infrastructure, language, or platform, and easily adapt to change.
• You are a team player, a quick starter and a problem solver. You are comfortable discussing requirements with product managers. You work well in a cross-functional team, and can listen and contribute to discussions. You ideally provide readily available solutions while considering technical aspects, effort, and risk.

What you will do

• You will collaborate closely with agile team members to support the design or testing of a functional area, implementation and testing of small to medium size features, and fix bugs, or re-test, those that are routine to moderate in difficulty under the guidance of senior developers.
• Under the guidance of senior developers, you will design, or test Kinaxis software components of a single functional area to support feature development within low to medium complexity functional areas.
• You will identify and suggest areas of code or tests to be refactored and write, refactor or modify areas of code that are medium-sized and have moderate interdependencies. You will work with senior developers to identify potential pitfalls.
• You will log defects and provide explanations for product behaviour, and suggest workarounds to customer support. You will resolve or re-test minor software defects and work with team members to fix and test moderate defects.
• You will eliminate obvious and subtle bugs in the product or in automated tests and write effective manual and automated functional tests to apply to functional areas. You will augment test frameworks or test tools, submit code for review, and incorporate feedback as well as act as reviewer for code submitted by other developers.
• You proactively seek opportunities to learn and develop your skills, such as through participation in a mentoring program, technical training, and attending conferences.

What we are looking for

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field with focus in artificial intelligence, machine learning, or a related specialization.
• Strong software engineering skills with a minimum of 2 years experience in ML enterprise software development.
• 4 years of progressive software development experience including experience working in an enterprise grade software application. Operated as a development prime on several med-high complexity features and can describe the SLDC process followed to deliver those capabilities, the challenges faced and how they were overcome.
• Proficiency in Python, object-oriented paradigm and Python design patterns.
• Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms with experience writing, debugging and optimizing ML data structures, pipelines and transformations.
• Ability to work in *nix environments
• Experience working with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Disciplined approach to software testing including unit testing and Continuous Integration.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Intermediate analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to plan and provide well thought-out opinions on technical issues.
