Job Description:
Sun Life is dedicated to leading the transition towards a low-carbon economy and ensuring both resiliency and sustainability within our operations. We have established an ambitious long-term target to achieve NetZero operational greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in alignment with the global warming limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, emerging climate regulations and guidelines for global financial institutions, such as OSFI Guideline B-15: Climate Risk Management, necessitate rigorous data measurement and decarbonization efforts within the organization. This position presents a significant opportunity to contribute to a growing initiative aimed at researching, innovating, and implementing data-driven solutions to support sustainability objectives.
The Sustainability Data Analyst will report to the Senior Sustainability Manager within Sun Life's Corporate Real Estate (CRE) team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a passionate individual to contribute to the establishment of a data analytics program within the sustainability field. Responsibilities include supporting the development and execution of key sustainability goals and programs that align with Sun Life's business plans and objectives. The Sustainability Data Analyst will manage the collection of sustainability data and handle reporting, metrics, and dashboard creation derived from this data. The analyst will deliver analyses, either independently or collaboratively, to present findings, develop internal and external reports, and provide evidence to support sustainable proposals or implementation strategies. Additionally, the role involves liaising with partners and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to achieve common sustainability goals. The position may also require conducting market research or investigations on sustainability topics pertinent to large financial institutions, ensuring current efforts are up-to-date or adapting existing processes as necessary.
What will you do?
Analyze, develop, and implement a comprehensive sustainability program, including a CRE sustainability Dashboard, to support CRE operations meeting company-wide goals.
Assist other CRE business units and the Corporate Sustainability team with implementation of sustainable practices or processes.
Assist with Quarterly Sustainability Report for Senior HR Executives and annual greenhouse gas data collection across the North American portfolio with partners.
Develop and implement process improvements for annual data gathering process for GHG emissions across North America.
Manage all data analytics and data management for the CRE sustainability program.
What do you need to succeed?
Expert knowledge of the Microsoft suite of products (Excel, Word etc.) with proven experience in VBA, as well as advanced Excel functions and Tableau.
Ability to extract, manipulate and simplify data through a variety of tools and techniques; ability to learn new tools, software and understand technical concepts with respect to building operations quickly.
Strategic thinker with proven success influencing peers and stakeholders through strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong research skills with an ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret documents.
Ability to develop visually appealing, succinct, informative program presentations and other deliverables.
Demonstrating innovation and adaptability in dynamic environments with shifting priorities and deadlines.
Capable of working independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.
Preferred skills
Experience in data analytics and business intelligence or similar experience.
Degree in facilities management, business administration, computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or equivalent experience.
Proficient in building and maintaining Excel Macros and VBA programs.
Skilled in using data analysis tools such as MS Applications and Tableau or similar.
Familiarity with sustainability concepts such as greenhouse gas accounting, waste management, green building is not required but would be an asset.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.
