Advanced Technologies is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Data Science Summer Intern to join our BWXT Advanced Technologies Data Technologies team, located in Lynchburg, VA. This internship will provide you with hands-on experience in data analysis, machine learning, and analytical modeling in a collaborative environment. You will engage in meaningful projects that support our mission of delivering exceptional technology solutions.

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in the collection, cleaning, and preprocessing of large datasets to prepare for analysis.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to develop machine learning models and analytical solutions for various projects.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover trends, patterns, and insights that inform business strategies.
  • Document methodologies and results, ensuring clarity for future reference and for team members.
  • Participate in team meetings to present findings and contribute to problem-solving discussions.

 

Job Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Python, as well as experience with data manipulation libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy).
  • Basic understanding of machine learning concepts and frameworks (e.g., Scikit-learn, TensorFlow).
  • Exposure to data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Matplotlib, or ParaView) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to present technical findings clearly.
  • A proactive and curious mindset, with a willingness to learn and tackle new challenges.

 Pay: $21.50 - $29.50

 

The starting hourly rate for this position in Virginia (US-VA)  at the start of employment is expected to be between $21.50  and $29.50  per hour.  The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify the hourly rate (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation, or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or applicable department/team performance, and other market factors.
