What is the opportunity?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a team of talented, passionate data engineers, architects, and senior thought leaders who will architect, direct, and build IMCO's data platform using modern cloud technology and provide data solutions for our investment team.  As a Data Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing Data and AI solutions within the IT & Data team across various business units, leveraging our cloud-based data platform to produce high-performance and scalable solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and translate business requirements into data and AI solutions. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in data processing, natural language processing (NLP), and frameworks for LLM. The role requires the incumbent to be innovative, drive solutions that complement the IT vision and IMCO’s strategies, and actively advocate technologies that best support IMCO in meeting its current and future business needs.

What will you do?

  • Implement architecture standards, guides, and processes to help create and shape the direction of the Data platform and support AI solutions.

  • Work closely with the data architect and senior members of the IT & Data team to design data solutions on Databricks and Snowflake, ensuring resiliency and long-lasting

  • Partner with our business stakeholders to formulate and drive AI business cases and help prioritize and formalize the intake process based on business benefits.

  • Discover technologies and industry trends to advance the team and create future-proof AI solutions to solve business problems, create efficiencies, and lower costs.

  • Design and develop data pipelines and ETL using Databricks to ingest, process, and curate structured and unstructured for consumption

  • Lead the design and implementation of AI solution framework and models leveraging open source, Azure Cloud, Databricks, and/or Snowflake where applicable

  • Leverage frameworks such as LangChain, Vellum AI, etc., to optimize and build RAG applications

  • Evaluate and measure the performance and quality of generative models using appropriate metrics.

  • Build services and platforms to enable re-usability and enable IT teams to leverage.

  • Develop standards and best practices for IT teams to help onboard onto the AI platform

  • Optimize the technology infrastructure for efficiency and scalability, including performance tuning of services and code

  • Help create DevOps practices for continuous integration and continuous delivery of AI models into production

  • Build out documentation and code repositories for knowledge-sharing

What you need to succeed:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Technology development, or equivalent education or experience.

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in developing Gen AI solutions

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in data warehousing with big data technology platforms, preferably in Databricks and Snowflake

  • Strong in programming languages such as Python and SQL.

  • Knowledge of NLP techniques and frameworks (e.g., spaCy, NLTK) for  text classification, sentiment analysis, and language generation.

  • Knowledge of generative models and algorithms such as generative adversarial networks (GANs) 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong data manipulation and analysis, including knowledge of data preprocessing techniques and data visualization

  • Experience with ETL, big data processing using technologies with Databricks or Snowflake using Spark

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Track record of working in an exploration capacity to innovate, stay updated, and make recommendations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of design

  • Superior tactical, analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities to translate business requirements into technical solutions

  • Knowledge of investment data, performance data, and Investment Systems

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, proven success communicating with the stakeholders, technical teams, and senior management

  • Cloud experience with a preference for Azure Cloud, with practical experience in resource setup, configurations, security, and connectivity, is an asset

  • Experience in Power BI is an asset

  • Experience with DevOps practices to deploy code and use of containerization with Dockers is a plus

  • Experience with popular machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) with understanding of deep learning algorithms and frameworks is an asset

  • Finance designations, such as CFA and FRM is an asset
