Internship: 6G Wireless Communication Research

Job Description

Start date: As soon as possible, no later than Q3 2025

Duration: 6-9 months

Type: Suitable for Thesis

Weekly presence: 32-40 hours.

Philips Intellectual Property & Standards is responsible for developing new standards, such as wireless connectivity standards and healthcare interoperability standards. Wireless communication standards, including cellular standards, continue to evolve, with 6G being the next generation. 6G will bring advancements such as more ubiquitous coverage through the integration of terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, integrated wireless communication and sensing, the use of AI/ML techniques, and increased security levels. 

The goal of your project will be to contribute to the research, design, implementation, and evaluation of novel communication techniques for 6G. Thus, in this role, you will have the opportunity to study advanced wireless connectivity techniques and standards, participate in researching, designing, implementing, and evaluating innovative communication techniques for 6G. Contribute to the standardization of your research findings.  

Various research topics are possible depending on the interest, skills, and background of the candidate, and these will be discussed during the interview. 

Your role:

  • Conduct research in the field of wireless communications.  

  • Design, implement, and evaluate innovative techniques for wireless communication systems.  

  • Document and report results, e.g., via academic publications or standardization contributions. 

You're the right fit if you:

  • Are enthusiastic and focused. 

  • Have a creative mind with good reasoning skills. 

  • Are independent and have a diligent work style. 

  • Are proficient in English (speaking & writing).   

  • Have proven programming skills, for example, in Python or Matlab.   

  • Have a solid background or strong interest in one or more of the following areas: (1) wireless communications, (2) AI/ML, (3) signal processing, (4) security and cryptography, demonstrated through university projects or internships.   

  • Are currently pursuing a Master's degree in fields such as electrical engineering, computer science, data science, telecommunications, or related areas. 

IMPORTANT:

Part of our selection procedure is a HireVue Assessment. We are not able correspond the outcome of this HireVue Assessment but will use this as extra selection criteria.

Our intern remuneration package:

  • Monthly full-time allowance between €500 - €700 gross, depending on educational level and if you would need to relocate to The Netherlands. If you will perform a part-time internship you will receive the allowance pro-rata.

  • Housing compensation, in case of relocating to the vicinity of the office, €300,- net if location is in the vicinity of Amsterdam, €255,- net for all other Philips locations. You need to provide a rental contract of the land lord, and your normal home-work travel distance need to be more than 50 km or travel time (one way trip) need to be more than 1.5 hours.

  • Travel compensation, if you are not eligible for a free public transport card; you will receive max. €192,- net

  • Paid holidays per internship term.

  • The opportunity to buy Philips products at our Philips shop
