Position Overview:
VIAVI are part of a consortium that has won funding from the Horizon Europe program. This exciting research work is focused on developing new technologies to deliver a user-friendly E2E AI framework for DataOps and MLOps in 6G communication systems. With themes of data space and trustworthy AI, the project has the ambition to incorporate 6G testbeds and digital twins in an overarching platform to support 6G development, optimization, autonomous networks and monetization.
VIAVI are seeking to recruit a Principal Investigator for a three-year term, starting early 2025, in the office of the VIAVI Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering commitments of VIAVI to the consortium research project. As well as contributing to the requirements, definition of the architecture, and technological enablers, they will collaborate to define the vision for the platform as a cornerstone of a 6G dataspace and as an enabler of scalable 6G experimentation and digital twins. Scalable and reliable data collection from testbeds and digital twin will be an important component of the work, as well as the development of scalable APIs to expose the data. The successful candidate will lead a component of the project focused on enabling large scale experimentation with digital twin and will integrate different facets of the enabling technologies to facilitate this. Coupled with this will be a role for interaction within the wider CTO team to deliver technology leadership and technology transfer of the work done in this project to the VIAVI product portfolio. The successful candidate will join a world-class, globally diverse team working on next generation 5G and 6G test, measurement, optimization and assurance solutions. There is scope for this role to include delivering industry thought leadership to VIAVI business units, customers, prospects, partners and industry standards bodies, e.g., 3GPP and the O-RAN Alliance.
This is a temporary role and is expected to be needed until the end of the project in December 2027. Depending on business conditions, it is hoped that the successful candidate will be offered permanent employment with VIAVI beyond the end of the project.
