Job Description

NBCUniversal Advertising Platforms & Operations (AP&O) is responsible for the product development, project management, and day-to-day operations of NBCUniversal’s full advertising technology suite. From program development to product management to sales operations, our division services both internal and external customers in support of NBCUniversal’s $10B+ annual advertising business. Together, we’re building the platform that powers the future of advertising at NBCU.

The Ad Sales Identity and Data Product team within AP&O is responsible for collection, standardization, and management of NBCUniversal’s owned and licensed data products and assets. NBCU collected consumer data is used to enable identity resolution, activation, monetization, and data collaboration through secure, privacy-centric methods and technologies. The AP&O Identity and Data Product team leads on data standardization and allocation for its suite of data products for the Advertising Sales division.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the SVP, Data Product and Partnerships, the person in this role will own and manage the build, structure and maintenance of NBCUniversal’s owned and licensed data assets. This role will interact with stakeholders across AP&O, Operations & Technology (O&T), Data Management, Data Science, Data Operations, Ad Sales Engineering and Data Audiences teams. The person in this role will manage a small team of direct reports and/or contractors and will be responsible for the architecture of how our data assets are built, groomed and delivered.

The function of the Data Management team is to create and manage the infrastructure and rules governing the format, processing and delineation of NBCU’s owned and licensed data assets and products to internal customers. The person in this role will ensure all owned and licensed datasets have uniform shape, syntax, structure, version and cardinality rules. The team managed by the VP will serve as the first stop for new and updated data assets into NBCU, ensure datasets are processed appropriately within the data management architecture, and deliver uniform datasets to all internal stakeholders.

This role will lead and motivate cross-functional, agile teams by communicating product roadmaps, producing product documentation, prioritizing backlogs and coordinating with internal teams. 

Qualifications

What you will do:

  • People manage a team of direct reports, internal resources and/or licensed contractors to execute the build and maintenance of NBCU’s data management infrastructure
  • Design and standardize the process for ingesting datasets, both from external vendors and internal product teams
  • Orchestrate data quality and acceptance processes, preventing derivatives from being created and disseminated throughout the organization
  • Ensure the handoffs of datasets between systems are governed by clearly defined rules
  • Lead the build of code development within data warehousing and/or clean rooms
  • Lead data integration and distribution by designing, building and implementing large scale, high volume and highly performant data pipelines in Snowflake and other data lakes/warehouses
  • Lead technical solutioning of dataset normalization including code, scripts, processes and procedures for product integration
  • Lead testing and validation efforts, ensuring data is verified across stages between source and destination. Ensure outputs meets or exceeds all production requirements
  • Stay up-to-date and lead your team on local and federal legislation governing the use of consumer data, as well as meeting accepted industry standards on consumer data that may not be incorporated into current legislation
  • Collaborate with NBCU Legal, Privacy and Data Governance teams, enforcing code standards, governance policies and security best practices
  • Develop monitoring systems to detect and resolve data discrepancies, performance issues and anomalies
  • Deliver fully optimized, scrubbed and uniform datasets to internal customers, on a regularly defined cadence, to consistent endpoints

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in product development and leadership roles, with relevant experience in data management and data architecture
  • Experience in data and product applications, such as Data Validation Tool (DVT), AirTable, SQL, Python, Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, etc.
  • Strong understanding of consumer data protection legislation as well as legal and industry standards regarding separation and storage of identifiable and anonymized signals, IDs, PI and PII
  • Experience in SQL programming with movement into data operations and architectural roles
  • Experience in AdTech and/or Data companies, such as (but not restricted to) Merkle, Acxiom, LiveRamp, Experian, TransUnion, Equifax, etc.
  • Ability to communicate with both internal and external engineering, product and development teams
  • Good understanding and familiarization with technology trends, data design, data processing and data formatting, as well as resolution of data conflicts.
  • Experience owning the end-to-end lifecycle of data architecture, specifically long-term rules and applications requiring iterative maintenance
  • Experience in people managing technical product managers and/or contractors
  • Strong empathy for solving problems for internal and external customers, with exceptional writing, analytics and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)

Salary range: $220,000 - $325,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible)
