Staff Data Engineer - Data Platform

Orfium is seeking a highly skilled Staff Data Engineer to spearhead a critical initiative: building and implementing our company-wide master data model. This pivotal role will be instrumental in shaping our data strategy and driving data-informed decisions across all departments, as also play a key role in the evolution of our Data Platform services, ensuring their scalability, robustness and meeting of growing business needs. Beyond technical expertise, we want an engineer that will mentor and upskill our growing Data Engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and best practices. The ideal candidate possesses strong data modeling and software engineering skills, has heavy experience with Cloud Providers and their services, and strong communicational and leadership abilities.

Requirements

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Lead the strategic initiative of creating a master Data Model in Orfium
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and define the scope of the master Data Model.
• Design and implement the master Data Model in Orfium, ensuring it is scalable, flexible, and aligned with industry standards.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the master Data Model and make improvements as needed.
• Grow and Upskill All Data Engineers
• Provide mentorship and coaching to junior and mid-level data engineers.
• Identify skill gaps within the team and create targeted development plans to address them.
• Apply and Drive Data Platform Practices and Contribute to Their Adoption
• Establish best practices for data engineering, including coding standards, data governance, and documentation.
• Lead the effort to standardize data platform tools and processes.

Qualifications:

• BSc degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 3 years in a tech leadership role.
• Strong technical skills in data engineering, including programming languages, data storage and processing, and data analysis techniques.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of data engineers.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Passion for data and a commitment to continuous learning.
• Experience with a major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including understanding of how to build data pipelines and infrastructure.
