Automation Test Engineer


About the role

Are you passionate about testing systems and finding new ways to solve challenges by leveraging data?   The ideal candidate has a foundation in data engineering, automation scripting, and machine learning/AI. Additionally, you will work to identify and assimilate data from our platform so that it can be used by various automation processes. As an important contributor within the US Technology Office team, you will work collaboratively with cellular RAN experts, mobile core engineers, mobile device engineers, software engineers, and other to help our private networks product scale.  We're on the lookout for an In-House Counsel who will work closely with various departments to ensure that all business operations are conducted within the legal framework and in alignment with the company's strategic objectives. Based in our New York office you’ll alongside a world-class team of experts that design, develop, and integrate software and systems to facilitate the delivery of our private cellular network services in medium to high complexity indoor and outdoor environments.

What you’ll be doing

As part of our Private Networks Product Development team in the US CTO organization, you’ll help to test, validate, and automate key components of our market-leading Mobile Private Networks as a Service offering.  At all levels, colleagues will rely on eye for detail and data, you’ll help execute and automate lab testing, the deployment of our networks, and help to systematically automate manual processes that would otherwise keep our operations teams busy. It’s a role with a lot of variety, and day-to-day, you’ll mainly be involved with: 

  • Work collaboratively with network architects and product development professionals within the Boldyn US Technology Office, UK/Ireland & European Private Networks technology teams, Boldyn Global Technology Office, and across US-based deployment teams.
  • Collaborates with RAN, Edge Platforms, Core, and Infrastructure architects and engineers to deliver a high-performance, scalable Private Networks Platform at the direction of the team Director
  • Works with team Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to setup and execute lab testing activities. Records test data using various tools, analyzes recorded test data, and presents results to others as required.
  • Sets up lab tests using prescribed processes and test plans. Performs test network configuration. Executes lab testing. Manages lab test components and materials.
  • Analyzes new and existing test plans and Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for automation opportunities. Identifies & recommends ways to automate repeatable processes, and writes required scripting to achieve automation objectives
  • Collaboratively works with subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify and retrieve key sources of data from mobile network equipment and related systems. Creates a data pipeline to translate & mediate data for ingestion into a database
  • Identifies and applies Machine Learning algorithms to detect unusual patterns to develop new insights on the way the network behaves during testing. Develops scripting that takes corrective action when a behavior is observed in production in order to improve the network’s performance or capabilities
  • Provide advice and counsel to executive members of the company regarding corporate legal and compliance matters.

  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience as an automation engineer, software tester, DevOps engineer, data analyst or similar data engineering role with a demonstrated understanding of test automation and data science
  • Ability to think critically and structure analyses to solve problems that are often poorly defined.
  • Works both independently of and collaboratively with technical subject matter experts across differing technical problem domains.
  • Strong knowledge of the Python scripting language is required. Knowledge of C, C++, GoLang, Typescript, Bash scripting, etc. is a plus
  • Experience working with Machine Learning (ML) algorithms and Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems is highly desired
  • Working knowledge of basic TCP/IP networking and Linux systems is required
  • Working knowledge as an end-user of unstructured databases (NoSQL) such as ElasticSearch, MongoDB, etc., is required. Working knowledge of one or more of the following data visualization tools is required: Kibana, Tableau, Superset, Grafana
  • Basic understanding of networks, especially 3GPP LTE/5G mobile networks and/or mobile networks devices is a plus
  • Prior experience working at a hyperscaler, software company, mobile networks equipment vendor, or mobile carrier a plus (Apple, Google, Amazon, Nokia, HPE/Athonet, Ericsson, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, etc.) is a plus
  • A strong communicator with good written and verbal communications skills
  • Proficient in standard business productivity suites: Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, etc. required.
  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning, or other related engineering discipline is required. Master’s Degree is preferred
  • U.S. Citizen or authorization to work full time within the United States.
