We are seeking a highly motivated an early career Bioinformatics Data Scientist with expertise in multiomic analysis and tool development. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research, working on projects funded by the DoD, NIH, FDA and industry. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, contributing to the development of cutting-edge AI/ML models that integrate multimodal data to support biomedical research and health risk prediction models.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop bioinformatic analyses, construction of AI/ML models, and development of computational tools, databases, and graphical user interfaces for multimodal/multiomics data.
- Collaborate with CFD Research's computational biologists, data scientists, and software engineers to design and interpret bioinformatic studies and tools.
- Contribute to the preparation of scientific reports, presentations, and publications.
- Stay current with advances in computational biology and bioinformatics skills to incorporate best practices and innovative approaches.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors (1-2 years experience) or Master's degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Proficiency with multiple programming languages (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB & Julia) and command-line.
  • Strong background in bioinformatic analysis (e.g., RNA-Seq & Whole genome sequencing).
  • Experience with one of the following:
    * AI/ML modeling of omic data
    * Bioinformatic pipeline and tool development (e.g., R packages)
    * Omic database and/or tool development (e.g., SQL database)
  • Demonstration of computational biology best practices and documentation, such as git, containers (e.g., Docker), virtual environments (e.g., Conda), and workflow management tools (e.g., Nextflow).
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and time management skills and the ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with multiple areas of interest (i.e., AI/ML modeling of omic data, Bioinformatic pipeline development, & Omic database and/or tool development)
  • Experience with cloud computing
  • Expertise and/or interest in immunology and pathogens
  • Interest in scientific writing of publications, reports, and/or proposal/grant writing

Location: This role is based in Dayton OH and is 100% onsite.
