National Grid is hiring a Data & Analytics - Platform Owner. This position can be based form our London or Warwick office - with a hybrid working policy in place.

Job Purpose

 

As a Platform Owner, you will have the additional responsibility of overseeing data and analytics platforms. You will be accountable for the end-to-end delivery and operation of your service(s), setting the direction for design and development, including vision, strategic themes, PI & Solution roadmaps. By guiding delivery towards maximizing the flow of value to customers through perceived Business Value, OKRs, and KPIs, you will ensure alignment with the strategy set by the Platform Lead and enable the organization to achieve its goals. Additionally, you will set policies and guidelines related to the platform strategy, manage relationships with stakeholders, drive innovation capabilities, and contribute to our vision of being a leader in the industry by leveraging emerging technologies to drive growth and success. We are primarily a Snowflake and Azure shop.

What you'll do

 

Lead Service Mission and Success:

 

  • Co-create and maintain the mission, roadmap, and backlog for data and analytics platforms.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to track business priorities, address pain points, and ensure timely task completion.
  • Lead demo reviews, provide feedback, and guide adaptations focused on platform requirements.
  • Manage interactions with service providers to meet delivery targets and performance objectives.
  • Assist the Product Owner in translating initiatives into actionable user stories for data and analytics.
  • Ensure platform scalability, efficiency, and security by aligning with best practices and monitoring performance.
  • Partner with Chapter Leads to address resourcing needs and manage the platform within budget.
  • Collaborate with teams to develop regulatory content aligned with data and analytics strategies.
     

 

Co-create, Prioritize, and Communicate the Backlog:

 

  • Prioritize the roadmap and backlog, focusing on data and analytics requirements.
  • Communicate the vision and goals for each release and sprint to keep the team aligned.
  • Represent the voice of the customer and provide iterative feedback on outcomes.
  • Define high-level backlog items and translate management requests into actionable tasks.
     

 

Enable Service Teams to Deliver Based on Value:

 

  • Engage with the team to provide feedback, clarify requirements, and ensure continuous integration and deployment.
  • Refine team structure and missions to effectively deliver on the platform's objectives.
  • Align outcomes with other Platform Leads and foster collaboration across the organization.
  • Create and deliver measurable customer success metrics focused on data and analytics achievements.
     

 

Embed the Right Processes & Behaviors:

 

  • Foster a culture that aligns with organizational values and promotes agile leadership.
  • Ensure transparency on the backlog and highlight achievements related to data and analytics.
  • Escalate major issues and seek leadership support when needed.
  • Encourage open communication and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Continuously engage with customers to gather feedback and understand their needs.
  • Manage alignment with other Platform/Product Owners for seamless integration.
  • Participate in a Community of Practice to share best practices and establish standards.
  • Build relationships with vendors and service providers to support data and analytics initiatives.

About you

 

  • BS/BA degree or higher in a technical discipline (US or UK equivalent).
  • Strategic technology leadership experience in IT infrastructure, analytics, and outsourcing management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas in a matrix environment.
  • Experience working with managed service providers for data center capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture principles, including data warehousing, data lakes, and data fabrics.
  • Proven experience managing and optimizing data warehousing solutions using tools like Snowflake, Databricks, Amazon Redshift, or Google BigQuery.
  • Hands-on experience in data engineering practices, including ETL processes and data pipeline development with tools like Informatica or Apache NiFi.
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) for model development and deployment.
  • Knowledge of Snowflake's capabilities for data science and machine learning, including Snowpark.
  • Experience with Azure Machine Learning services for model design, training, and deployment.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess data needs and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage projects related to data platform development.
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks and compliance regulations.
  • These qualifications will enable a Data Platform Owner to effectively manage and optimize data warehousing, data engineering, and analysis tools within a large enterprise.

What you'll get

 

A competitive salary between £70,000 – £95,000 – dependent on capability


As well as your base salary, you will receive a company car or allowance, a bonus of up to 20% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, a salary sacrifice technology scheme, support via the employee assistance line and matched charity giving to name a few.
