The List Institute at CEA Tech (CEA's technological research division), dedicates its activities to driving innovation in intelligent digital systems. The specialized R&D programs aim to carry out technological developments of excellence in critical industry sectors and by partnering with key industry and academic actors.
Within the LIST Institute, the Embedded and Autonomous Systems Design Laboratory (LSEA), has a recognized expertise in the field of model-based design of safety-critical systems, and has initiated an upstream work for the mastery of advanced technologies of safe self-adaptation and trustworthy autonomy in critical systems. The lab plays an important role in standardization groups like the OMG (Object Management Group) responsible for UML, SysML and MARTE. The lab also contributes to the Eclipse open source model-based development platform Papyrus (www.eclipse.org/papyrus).

Job description
The latest advances on AI and LLMs mean a next stage on technological advancements. These technologies in turn, lead to new services, products and interactions, which are currently taking shape and impacting businesses, industries and people on daily basis, and at an increasing pace. Yet, in part due to the fast advancement, in part due to the extraordinary tasks accomplished by thesetechnologies, the real capabilities and limits of LLMs along with their integration with already existing approaches is still beingunveiled.
This position is aimed at exploring and experimenting on hybrid technologies where the interaction of LLMs and Symbolic AI (Hybrid)is studied. Specifically, the work will be framed by 2 use cases:
•LLMs + Planning, using PDDL and variations.
•LLMs + Knowledge Representation, mainly represented by ontologies.
In both cases we study how the characteristics of symbolic AI (provability, unambiguity, tracebility, reuse) can be leveraged via the interaction with LLMS, and vice-versa.
Applicant Profile
- Students in the 2nd year of Master studies (M2 – France)
- Programming skills. Expected to use: Python & Java. Web technologies knowledge is a plus.
- Basic understanding of Docker, Containers, GIT and command line commands.
- LLMs basics knowledge.
