About the team

The Sustainability Team sits within the Office of the Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, with a mandate to translate the vision and intent of the University’s Sustainability Strategy into actions and outcomes.  The team is the coordinating unit for delivery of a broad range of sustainability projects and activities across research, education, operations, and engagement functions.

As a visible champion for sustainability within the University, the Sustainability Team deliver the Strategy through best-practice advisory, project management, engagement expertise, and through building and maintaining collaborative partnerships with academics, professional staff, students, and the broader sustainability community.

About the opportunity

As the Sustainability Data and Reporting Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting the Sustainability Strategy team by managing and enhancing the data that underpins the University’s sustainability impact, ensuring its accuracy, relevance, and alignment with strategic goals.

Leveraging your passion for sustainability and strong data management and analytical skills, you will evaluate trends, identify opportunities, and ensure compliance with reporting obligations to drive impactful sustainability initiatives.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work within a collaborative and passionate team, reporting to the Sustainability Compliance Lead

  • support the Sustainability Strategy by managing compliance and voluntary reporting, including the annual sustainability strategy report, input to the University’s annual report and aligning data with strategic and regulatory priorities

  • develop and deliver a reporting framework that integrates mandatory and voluntary obligations, minimises duplication, and links sustainability data to strategic priorities and benefits

  • synthesise data into comprehensive written and visual reports for diverse audiences, ensuring alignment with environmental, social, and compliance goals

  • enhance data collection and reporting processes, advise on system improvements, and identify emerging technologies to optimise resource allocation and decision-making

  • collaborate with stakeholders to streamline data flows, support ESG data analysis, and contribute to strategic projects and ad hoc tasks aligned with sustainability goals.

About you

  • tertiary qualification and/or relevant work experience in data analytics, environmental science, sustainability, communications or a related field

  • data management experience, including database design and oversight, data integrity checking and preparation of data for analysis

  • strong liaison and interpersonal skills with the ability to build networks and foster constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support key initiatives

  • experience managing a diverse group of key internal/external stakeholders on large or complex projects

  • experience with sustainability reporting processes, including carbon inventory and familiarity with reporting frameworks such as TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) and TNFD (Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures), is desirable

  • excellent administrative skills, coupled with a general understanding of the project life cycle, project documentation, project standards and methodologies

  • high level data analysis skills, to query and validate data and to discover patterns and relationship within data

  • contextual understanding of sustainability data such as energy and water usage as well as greenhouse gas emissions is highly desirable

  • a genuine passion to achieve beneficial outcomes for Sustainability and Environmental Sciences.
