Position: Senior Business Data Analyst – Healthcare IT

Location: East Windsor, NJ

Job Description

The Senior Business Data Analyst will work closely with business stakeholders, data teams, and technical SMEs to analyze, model, document, and manage healthcare data and business systems requirements. The role involves acting as a liaison between business and technical teams, translating complex business information needs into actionable insights and application software solutions.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a Business Data Analyst, primarily in US Healthcare IT projects.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare data sources such as Claims (837I, 837P), EDI, ICD-9/10, CPT, CCDA, QRDA, HL7, FHIR, EMR, SNOMED, LOINC, and HEDIS.
  • In-depth knowledge of payer data sources (Member/Enrollment, Claims, Revenue, etc.) and clinical & population health data.
  • Strong understanding of HEDIS, NCQA, eCQM, PQI, PDI, Meaningful Use, HIPAA policies, CMS (Medicare/Medicaid systems), and quality measures.
  • Conduct data analysis on various disparate healthcare datasets using SQL, extracting data and helping with reporting.
  • Work with business stakeholders to gather and define business and functional requirements, technical specifications, and data mappings.
  • Create detailed documentation of features, functions, and data workflows to support application development and implementation.
  • Define and document processes, workflows, and feed specifications to enhance product development activities.
  • Conduct internal and client UAT sessions before release to ensure data integrity and quality.
  • Collaborate in the planning and design of new applications and enhancements to existing ones.
  • Develop and execute test cases and test scripts to ensure data accuracy and system functionality.

 

Required Skills:

  • Business and Data Analysis experience in the US Healthcare domain.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL for data analysis, data ingestion, validation, and reporting.
  • Experience with ETL, interface technologies, and data integration.
  • Strong expertise in healthcare data standards (Claims, HL7, FHIR, ICD, HEDIS, SNOMED, LOINC, etc.).
  • Ability to understand and create data mapping documents, technical documentation, and specification documents.
  • Experience working with requirement gathering for healthcare applications.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple assignments.
  • Strong research, problem-solving, and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Health and Hospital Management, Healthcare Administration, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, or a related healthcare field.
  • Experience with healthcare data quality, governance, and compliance standards.
  • Understanding of data interoperability and exchange standards in healthcare IT systems.

 

Soft Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with business and technical teams.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to improving data quality and business processes.

 

Good to have:

Certification from PAHM (Professional, Academy for Healthcare Management) or AHM (Accredited Healthcare Management) will be a plus
