What is the role?
Applications are sought for suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Data Analyst (Band 5 and Band 6). If you have a keen interest in identifying trends, exploring large volumes of data and an appetite for continual learning, then we would like to hear from you.
The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience analysing data, creating meaningful insights and articulating their findings through the production of easy to understand reports for the AFP executive and stakeholders. We are establishing a pool to fill current and anticipated vacancies.
You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.
What will you do?
It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below. These Canberra based roles are located in Professional Standards. The successful applicant will be responsible for leading data-driven projects that provide insights to assist the Professional Standards Command and broader AFP make sound business decisions. This will include conducting analysis of data from a range of systems. The roles will be involved in the production and quality assurance of regular and ad-hoc reporting.
The day-to-day activities may include, but not limited to:
- Using AFP systems to access, search, map and prepare data from various source systems.
- Interpreting data, identifying inconsistencies and working collaboratively with stakeholders to resolve the underlying root cause of any issues.
- Communicating key information to stakeholders, from the data verbally, visually (including the creation of dashboards) and in writing. Identifying current and future data requirements, contributing to the ongoing development of datasets.
- Collaborating with key stakeholders to guide best practice data collection and analysis.
- Creating data-driven insights and reports to explore complex business problems.
- Quality assurance of information to ensure compatibility with requests, and accuracy of data outputs.
- Providing guidance to support the ongoing development of team members.
- Improving capability in data analysis processes, through ongoing development and learning opportunities.
This role predominantly involves working independently and as part of a team to extract, evaluate, validate and communicate analytical information.
Essential Requirements
Band 5
- Has contemporary knowledge and experience relevant to the role.
- A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
- Conceptual and analytical skills.
- High degree of demonstrated, proficiency in Excel.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
Band 6 (Band 5 requirements as well as below)
- A strong customer/consumer focus, designing reports and placemats, with the end user in mind.
- Creative thinking.
- Strategic thinking.
- Ability to plan and deliver on multiple concurrent projects.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative and self-management.
Additional Information
These roles are based in Canberra, ACT. The applicants are expected to be based in the ACT or relocate to the ACT at their own expense.
