The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

 

Role Description

Summer intern position to support the manufacturing and engineering of world-class, high-precision optical systems in Corning's Advanced Optics division. 

The focus of this internship is to work with development and production engineers on analysis of manufacturing data, to inform both improved modeling and manufacturing outcomes for our optical systems.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in a STEM field, including optics, data science, computer science, chemical engineering, or industrial engineering
  • Coursework in statistics and probability, and familiarity with analyzing data sets (e.g., in R, Python with Pandas, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Background in basic machine-learning models (e.g. developing a neural network in Python with PyTorch or MATLAB)
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2025 (May-August 2025) with a graduation date of December 2025 or later
  • Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
  • Be willing to work at the posted job location

 

Desired Skills:

  • Coursework in wave physics, optics, or interferometry
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g. Creo or SOLIDWORKS)

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
