At DTU Wind Energy and Systems, we have a few projects related to our novel method, AQUADA, which uses thermography and computer vision to detect damage in wind turbines and PV panels. We are looking for a new colleague to further develop the method by solving real-world challenges in the renewable energy sector.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to strengthen the department’s competencies within structural health monitoring and damage inspection using computer vision and deep learning technologies. You will work with colleagues nearby and with academic and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad. Your primary tasks will be to:
- Develop computer vision, image processing and deep learning methods for damage detection of wind turbine blades considering varying conditions such as sunlight, temperature, wind, etc.
- Develop GUI tools for the developed methods.
- Publish high-quality journal papers.
- Supervise MSc student projects and be co-supervisor for PhD students.
The successful candidate is expected to have:
- A keen interest in pursuing applied research in computer vision and deep learning with a focus on wind energy application.
- Proven experience with computer vision tool/software development using Python and/or Matlab.
- A solid publication track record in the relevant field of expertise.
- Experience with thermal image analysis is an advantage.
- Experience with hardware such as drones and cameras are an advantage.
- Good analytical skills, and a proactive and collaborative attitude.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
You should have a solid background and research experience in computer vision, image processing and deep learning with a fundamental understanding of related disciplines such as mechanical engineering and composite materials.
As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
